Euro HD DVD won't release format sales figures

 

Earlier this week the Euro HD DVD camp announced that independent estimates showed that 3.8 HD DVD discs have been sold for every player purchased in European countries. While Blu-ray only has 0.6 Blu-ray Discs have been sold for every BD-capable player and console bought in European regions. On the face of it that means HD DVD is the most popular format. But as one site points out HD DVD backers may, on average, have purchased 3.8 discs each. But if there are only a hundred of them, that's just 380 discs. If Sony has shipped more than a million PS3's in Europe, that's 600,000 discs. HD DVD Europe won't release sales figures to give a better comparison. It seems the figures might show Europe might not be interested in HD DVD, or Blu-ray for that matter. But there are so many Blu-ray players in the form of PS3s that Bl-ray is building a much bigger momentum.

Sony: PS3 sales boosted to 100,000, Wii shortages good for PS3

 

U.S. sales of the PS3 more than doubled in the weeks after the company slashed the price BY $100 and launched a low-end model, Sony Corp. CEO Howard Stringer told The Associated Press Wednesday. Stringer said the price cut and new model make the PS3 more competitive against the Wii and 360 as the holiday season approaches. Sony said it had been selling between 30,000 and 40,000 consoles per week before the Oct. 18 price cut from $599 to $499 of the 80 GB model. Sales rose to 75,000 in the week of Oct. 29, with the introduction of the 40GB and a lower priced high end model. It was the following week that sales hit 100,000, according to Sony. Stringer said that after Sony had taken so much heat but now the turning point has been passed. Stringer believes the PS3 could benefit from a Wii shortage saying "It's a little fortuitous that the Wii is running out of hardware".

Lagging sales of the PlayStation 3, compared to sales of the Wii and XBox 360, prompted Sony to cut the price in the U.S. as it had in Japan and Europe.

Stringer said Sony is poised to benefit from the difficulty Nintendo has had producing Wii consoles fast enough to keep up with demand.

By October, Nintendo had shipped 9.3 million units worldwide of the Wii, which went on sale late last year. By the end of this fiscal year in March 2008, total global Wii shipments are expected to reach 22.3 million.

 

Sony had sold 5 million PS3s worldwide by October. The game console went on sale late last year in Japan and the U.S. and in March in Europe.

 

Microsoft had sold 11.6 million Xbox 360 machines in two years.

 

Sony executives said the rising sales also will boost the Blu-ray

High Definition

DVD format. A Blu-ray drive comes with the PS3.

 

"It puts us vastly ahead of where the other format is going to be in terms of an installed base in people's homes by the end of this holiday season," Andrew House, Sony's chief marketing officer, said.

 

Toshiba Corp. has been selling players for its rival DVD format for high-definition as low as $200 and prices are expected to drop further.

EA: PS3 consumers waiting for the right game, at the right quality

 

EA's VP for the UK has implied that their is a bright future ahead for the Sony PS3 but he believes as of right now, consumers are still waiting for quality titles to hit the system. He drawn reference to sales of FIFA 08 on the PS3 in comparison to the Xbox 360, on its first week, FIFA 08 sold 75 percent more on the PS3 than the 360 despite the installed based difference. This he believes shows the hunger for quality games from PS3 owners.

αυτο που διαφευγει στον vp της EA Αγγλιας, ειναι οτι την εποχη που εβγαινε το fifa 08 στο 360 υπηρχαν πολλες επιλογες απο αριστα games, ενω στο ps3 οχι και τοσες πολλες επιλογες..

συν -φυσικα- οτι το παιχνιδι διατεθηκε στην αγορα περισσοτερο απο μια εβδομαδα

αλλωστε ο απολογισμος της EA τζιρο/πλατφορμα ητανε παραπανω απο απλα διαφωτιστικος..

Ας περασουμε παλι στα vs οπως...

Ridge racer(ps3)vs Ridge racer(360) και γιατι η εκδοση του ps3 δειχνει χειροτερη.

Μαλλον η αδυναμια του HW.

Η ουσια δεν χανεται,τουλαχιστον αν καταλαβες που το πηγα.

 

ΥΓ.Και κατι ουσιαστικα offtopic στον νοημα των παραπανω που ειπα.

Το Ridge racer 7 απ'οσο ξερω δεν ηταν πραγματικη συνεχεια του 6,αλλα το ιδιο παιχνιδι, οποτε δεν εχει βαση ετσι και αλλιως ο διαχωρισμος που πας να κανεις.
