UT3 on PS3: Keyboard and Mouse Support Confirmed

 

Mark Rein have confirmed today that the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will support keyboard and Mouse. He confirmed this via the official forums that they will be supporting keyboard and mouse in Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3.

id Reveals Rage For PC, Mac, PS3 and 360

 

The new property id Software executives have repeatedly hinted towards is named Rage, co-founder and programmer John Carmack revealed at today's QuakeCon festivities.

 

"Everybody knows we're going to do a good job with the run and gun action stuff...but we are branching out," explained Carmack, who noted id's love for a Road Warrior-esque post-apocalyptic atmosphere.

 

A trailer for the title showcased driving and expansive outdoor areas in addition to id's traditional shooting elements. Shacknews editor Chris Remo described both the character models and the environment as incredibly detailed, complete with good facial animation on NPCs and impressive detail on a small fly.

 

The company estimates that the single-player game--which has players driving across an open world from settlement to settlement fighting mutants, monsters and the government--will take roughly 20 hours to complete. Players will be able to customize their vehicles throughout the game, as well as engage in co-op multiplayer with a friend.

 

While id maintained its typical stance that the title will ship "when it's done," the company did reveal that the PlayStation 3 edition of Rage will arrive on one Blu-ray disc, whereas the other three versions--PC, Mac, Xbox 360--will come on two DVDs with a potential Blu-ray distribution for PC and Mac. Through the game's use of the recently unveiled id Tech 5, which CEO Todd Hollenshead claims will run equally well on any hardware platform, all four versions of Rage are targeted to run at 60 frames per second.

Warhawk dated August 28th, digital and retail prices announced

 

Over at the official US PlayStation blog, Warhawk director Dylan Jobe announced that Sony's online title has gone gold and will be hitting the PlayStation Network and retail shelves on August 28th.

Jobe also put an end to speculation regarding the price, stating that the digital download for Warhawk will be priced at $39.99, while the boxed copy will retail for the now standard $59.99.

 

Seeing as how this is a multiplayer only title with a digital download, we would have preferred to see that price a bit lower, but still, this is a much better scenario than say, the Shadowrun debacle. The retail version of Warhawk is being thought of as a premium version of the title, featuring expanded video content as well as a Bluetooth headset. Not bad for an extra twenty bucks.

 

For those wondering about the fabulously pictured Warhawk pin, sorry, it's for Beta players only. The top ranked Beta players, to be exact.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: Famitsu Interview with Kazunori Yamauchi

 

Key points from the interview:

 

# The game that could be released on 10/24/2007 to coincide with the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. Being that this years Tokyo Motor Show will be "revolutionary" for Japanese automakers debuting their brand new sports cars.

 

# Various new online features will be announced and the game will be playable at the Leipzig show this month

 

# GT:HD Concept will be removed from the PSN network when Prolouge is released

 

# GT Prolouge will be Home compatible

 

# There will be a "My Page" screen selectable from the title. Having given the online race component a lot of thought, the "My Page" will store your friends list, even calender, ranking etc. The online component will try to build an online community like social networking sites like "My Space", "Mixi" (Japanese MySpace equivalent)

 

# While the game is called "Grand Turisimo Prologue" it will be less like an arcade mode but closer to a simplified version of "Grand Turismo Mode" in the other GT games; making money, buying cars, etc.

 

# It will be a Grand Turismo "World". In the final version they would like to have people be able to walk around a town and look at cars. They will creating each detail of the city as well as the car. Other then Tokyo they will have scenic views like natural environments as well.

 

# GT:Prologue will have 40 cars and 4 race tracks (8 different configurations). Including tracks not seen before.

 

# When asked about downloadable content, he responds "now right now, but likely later on". When asked if the "Grand Turismo Award" winners from the 2006 SEMA shown in Las Vegas will be available; tuned 1960 Corvette and HKS CT230R Yamauchi responds, "I think one of the them. "

PAL PS3 Starter Pack to cease on August 31st

 

The PlayStation 3 "starter pack" offer--which sees a 60GB PS3 bundled with two controllers and two games in PAL territories--will end in Australia on August 31, less than a month after it was first launched locally.

 

At this year's E3, Sony made a big splash about cutting the price on the 60GB model of the PlayStation 3, as well as the introduction of a new 80GB model to the North American market. Unfortunately for those in Europe and Australia, the price cut was restricted to the US only--instead of a reduction, gamers in PAL territories were given a new starter pack. That wasn't the end of it, however, as less than a day later, Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Kaz Hirai confirmed that the 60GB PS3 was, in actuality, no longer in production, and that the 80GB PS3 would soon be the only SKU on offer in the US. This left PAL gamers up in the air about exactly how long the starter pack would be available, and when or if the 80GB model would soon supersede it in their territories.

 

A marketing e-mail sent to members of PlayStation's official web site in Australia over the weekend gave out some hints on the fate of the 60GB PS3. The e-mail--which was plugging the local availability of the starter pack--contained some extra details in the fine print, namely that that offer would "end on August 31 (or earlier, while stocks last)". In Australia, the PS3 Starter Pack only became available on August 2, and retails for A$999.95. The pack includes MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man as the two bundled games. The same pack is available in the UK/Europe for £425/599 euro.

 

Local Sony reps confirmed that the date details in the e-mail were correct, but declined to elaborate on what would replace the current starter pack offer come the end of August.
