Sony quiet on WipEout HD

 

Sony UK has declined to comment on reports that the company is preparing a "WipEout HD" title as a downloadable PlayStation Network product.

 

WipEout Pulse game director Tony Buckley reportedly told 1UP that the internal Liverpool studio handling WipEout titles wants to release the PSN version quickly, and that we may see an announcement in August or even at E3 next month.

 

WipEout HD would feature online multiplayer, 1UP added, and would be an addition to the WipEout release schedule rather than a replacement for the full WipEout game that Sony Liverpool is known to be developing, which is supposedly due out next year.

 

A spokesperson for Sony UK said: "I can't confirm anything about WipEout on the PS3 at this time."

 

Earlier this month we spoke to WipEout designer Clark Davies about WipEout Pulse, the one Sony Liverpool WipEout game that is confirmed for this year, and he told us it was "too soon" to discuss plans on PS3.

 

But hey, we know something's going on, and WipEout HD sounds like a good bet given Sony's obvious fondness for high-definition PlayStation Network releases. Expect more in the coming weeks.

Sony details PS3 1.82 firmware

 

Sony plans to introduce support for AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) file playback in a new firmware update due out soon.

 

The firmware, version 1.82, will be released "in the next few days", PlayStation Network Operations Director Eric Lempel said in a post on Sony Computer Entertainment America's blog.

 

 

Recent PS3 firmware updates have introduced the ability to upscale DVDs, PS1 and PS2 games to 1080p resolutions, to downscale Blu-ray video to 720p and to view files stored on a home network.

 

However, there has been a mixed reaction to firmware updates from those who intend to play older games on their PS3s, with the level of support for several key titles including Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater from Konami seemingly in fluctuation.

 

In his blog post of Monday 26th June, Lempel perhaps anticipated this concern when he added: "We're continuing to evaluate and improve things across the board, including PS2 software compatibility."

Δηλαδή όποιος δεν έχει να σκάσει τα φράγκα να πάρει την τελευταία τεχνολογία, να πάει να γ@μηθεί. Αγόρασες το προηγούμενό μας σύστημα? Ας πρόσεχες. Πραγματικά πολύ φιλεύσπλαχνο εκ μέρους σου και φιλότιμο εκ μέρους της MS.

 

Μου αρέσει πάντως: Στη σύγκρiση PS3-X360 οι παραπάνω δυνατότητες είναι αδιάφορες, στη σύγκριση PS2-Next Gen είσαι αδιάφορος και ανάξιος αναφοράς αν δεν ακολουθείς την εξέλιξη.

Εγω το βρισκω πολυ σωστο το post του TopGunZ και θα συμφωνησω ιδιαιτερα με τις 2 πρωτες γραμμες,

για αυτο οπως εγραψα και πριν,υπαρχουν διαφορετικες οπτικες γωνιες που βλεπει ο καθενας το θεμα.

Το καλο ειναι να σεβομαστε την αποψη του καθενος φιλε MiltoZ και να μην απανταμε ετσι.

Sixaxis Shock Details Unveiled ?

 

In this month section of PSM in France, there have been details that have been released in reference to the new ps3 controller. None of this has been confirmed by Sony but these details came from PSM.

 

 

Technical details :

- the gyroscopic functions can cohabit with the vibrations. The explanation? The speed to which a player can move the lever is quite lower at the speed of the vibrations.

- the engine of vibration could be inclu in the lever without having to modify the form of it. There is enough place for the new engine, and this one, concus by Immersion, are lighter for an obstruction equivalent.

- One indeed has to expect a reduction in the autonomy of Sixaxis. Nevertheless, the new engine of vibration does not consume more than the old models (Dualshock) in spite of the fact that it is more powerful.

- the new engine is less expensive to build, and a possible rise in price of the pad should be only very light.

- With an update of the firmware, we will be able to have the vibrations for plays PS2

 

Details on the “Touchsense” :

 

New technology, named “Touchsense” is a mini-revolution. Indeed, from now on, the vibrations will not emanate solely any more from the handles of the pad (as on Dualshock) but will be perceptible in various places of the lever. It as should be specified as they will be more powerful, more intense and over short periods if the programmers wish it. Thus, the developers will be able to create a multitude of still new effects. If Sony chooses this technology, it will thus not act of a simple return of the vibrations, but well of a very new technology

 

Some examples :

 

- This technology will be able to reproduce the fast jolt and forces caused by a shot,

- Immersion promises that one will be able to feel the asperities of the road in the plays of race (like Dirt), but also small shocks related on the shiftings of speed and even to accelerations or decelerations.

PS3 Firmware 1.82 Released on playstation network now.

The 1.82 update is going to add AVC-MP4-H.264 High Profile and this may finally open up AVC-MP4 conversion as the main way to go. And there is better software that will write AVC-MP4-H.264 High Profile at the higher bitrates and 1080p resolution.

AVC-MP4-H.264 Main Profile *only*. Plus the PS3 is very restrictive about what it considers is a valid file fitting that profile, ergo, Unsupported Data or Corrupt Data File. A few software like PS3 Video 9, Nero AVC, Super-C and a couple of others are able to write PS3-compatible AVC-MP4 but all of those programs have serious conversion issues, mainly maximum bitrate.

Features rumored to be Firmware 2.0 *UPDATE*

This details are all from PSM magazine. This could very well be true coming from a playstation magazine. We are waiting for an official confirmation from Sony.

 

UPDATE

 

The in game XMB is a possibility as demonstrated in the video posted below(2:20). Even though the video is about a month old we see a demonstration of the xmb been access whiles a game is been played.

Resistance FoM: Update this Friday

 

 

On Friday the 29th of June the Resistance servers will be down most of the day. The down-time should start at around 2.30am UK time and will continue into the afternoon.

 

When it returns later on Friday, the update you've been waiting for will be ready to download and Map Pack 1 will be available for Purchase!

 

We will release full information on both of these on Friday.

Soul Calibur 4 Info

 

- 60fps confirmed (we already knew that, though).

- Just to show how much detail they're putting into the visuals: "The leather straps on Ivy's thighs make real-time indentations into her skin as she fights."

- They're actually rendering Taki's nipples under her leotard. No, i'm not kidding.

- New fighters will be kept under wraps until closer to release.

- Guard Impact will be back.

- The stage backgrounds are very early, so remember that when screens are released.

- Stages will be far more interactive and play a part in the gameplay. They give an example of Zasalamel's clock tower.

- They're hoping to reduce ring-outs by making the stages much larger.

- SC3 is the base they're starting from for balance reasons.

- Patching the game is possible if any issues come up, but "we don't intend to make a game that needs to be patched at a later date."

- The health gauge is going to be changed. There'll be a way to beat your opponent that doesn't involve the health gauge or ring-outs.

- No tag-team play.

- On Soul Calibur for the PSP: "We're happy to hear that players would like to see Soulcalibur on PSP, so we'll keep that in mind."

- The Create-a-Soul mode is getting major improvements like being able to change your characters voice and certain customizations will have an effect on gameplay.

- Online custom character trading is a possibility, as well as bringing your custom character to a friends house.
