Δεν βλέπω περίπου ΚΑΜΙΑ διαφορά στο Riddick. Τι remake κάνουν δηλαδή; Δείτε και μόνοι σας,αφήστε στην άκρη την διαφορετική ανάλυση. Ελπίζω το Work In Progress να ευθύνεται και να τα προσέξουν περισσότερο τα γραφικά:

Firmware 1.80 up for downloads, our opinions also available

dvd_en.jpg

The hotly anticipated system update has gone live as of exactly midnight EST. Without a minute to spare, we downloaded the new update and test-drove the two most important features: 1080p DVD upscaling and 1080p PS2 game upscaling. What do we think?

We have to admit, we're disappointed by the DVD playback. We tested a couple of DVDs from the amazingly hilarious show Scrubs. The difference between the original 480p image and the upscaled one is minimal at best. Perhaps it was the show itself, but the only added factor by jumping the resolution up was a slight decrease in grainy faces in the foreground. No beats of sweat clearly visible, no defined facial lines beyond what the original DVDs had displayed. This may be due to the fact that the TV we used only could get 720p/1080i -- so that may have been a reason.

On the software side, we booted up a number of games: Rogue Galaxy, Phantasy Star Universe, and Dawn of Mana. Yes, we love RPGs. The difference was surprisingly substantial. In the case of Rogue Galaxy, where jaggies were minimal to begin with, the difference got rid of the remaining backwards compatibility errors. However, if the upscaling is set to "full screen" and the smoother is turned "on" then you might stare at something that's a lot more blurry than you're used to. Not jaggy -- blurry. PSU suffered horribly with jaggies and the upscaler worked well. It's not perfect, but it's acceptable. With the smoother turned on, the clothing and actions of characters just seem ... smoother. How about that? Dawn of Mana simply got a smooth boost, since it looked mostly fine anyway.

Overall, we greatly approve of the PS2 upscaling capabilities. PS One titles ... well ... there's not much to upscale anyway, but they did what they could. Nothing worth mentioning, but it's a nice touch to make the games looks less dated. Parasite Eve 2 is actually fairly good looking upscaled. Almost an early PS2 game. We have no true opinion on the DVD upscaling since we don't have a 1080p HDTV, but what we were able to view wasn't much different. How about you guys? What are your thoughts?

Gothic 4 announced for PS3, sans developer Pluto 13

The long-running action-RPG series has recently undergone some serious negotiations with new developers, says Australian publisher JoWood. The series used to be handled by Pluto 13 (or Pirahna Bytes), but they've gone bye-bye. The new developer hasn't been named yet, so we don't know much about if the gameplay will change at all, graphical direction, quality, whatever.

Usually, this wouldn't matter to console owners at all since the Gothic franchise has historically been a PC exclusive. However, this latest iteration is scheduled for consoles as well as PC. Since most console owners probably haven't played it, the game is fairly nonlinear. Free-roam, do what you want, make allies with whoever and kill whatever. It's sort of like Fable, we guess. Or Elder Scrolls. Gothic titles generally have a lot of bugs that simply don't get fixed -- we hope they take better care of the game when they put it on consoles. Anyone played the other games? Think this'll translate well onto consoles?

Square Enix: No Final Fantasy XIII Until 2008 in Japan

Another major PS3 release that won't see light in 2007.

During a financial briefing in Japan, IGN reports that Square Enix President Yoichi Wada fielded questions about the company's coming financial year and, in the process, confirmed what we'd all previously suspected: there's no way Final Fanasy XIII is coming in 2007.

In fact, Wada says investors shouldn't expect the epic RPG until after their coming fiscal year, which means no Final Fanasy XIII in Japan until at least May 2008. North America will probably receive the game sometime in the fall of 2008.

Few really anticipated Square Enix to push Final Fantasy XIII out the door in 2007, but with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots starting to look like an early 2008 release, PlayStation 3 is losing some of its biggest sales drivers to the highest cost of next-generation development -- it takes a hell of a long time to make games now.

Rumors have persisted that a demo will appear on the PlayStation Network before the year is out, however. Just because the finished game is taking some time doesn't mean Square Enix won't let fans get a taste of their brewing creation early.

Haze Developer Interview- Releasing Fall 2007

How is it to develop on PS3? What can you do with this console that you couldnʼt do with previous-gen consoles?

Itʼs great. Working on PS3 has allowed us to create vastly superior environments that verge on photorealism – full-screen effects, High Dynamic Range (HDR) and obscenely complex shaders. Its more challenging than ever before, but the power is greater than anything else thatʼs out there.
