Dead or Alive headed to the PlayStation 3?

In the most recent EGM magazine, the rumor section contained an interesting tidbit concerning the Dead or Alive franchise. It purported that not only was Team Ninja creating a game within the DoA universe that was coming to the,but that it would be a PS3 exclusive title.

First Ninja Gaiden Sigma and now this? It seems Team Ninja has had a change of heart in choosing which console they favor this generation. No details were given concerning what the future game would be. We can count a Ninja Gaiden game off the list as NGS isn't even out yet. So that leaves Dead or Alive 5 or Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, unless a new game set within the DoA universe is in the cards. We hope it's the latter. What do you think the game will be, if this rumor becomes reality? Let us know in the comments section below.

Motion tracking with the PS3 sixaxis

Those at pabr.org have engineered a Sixaxis controller into a remote for other devices. This demonstration shows the controller tilting and rotating a plane but is it for real, or is there something else involved?

Sony: GOW 2 Goat Stunt was of 'unsuitable nature', investigation launched

A Sony spokesperson has revealed that they are to conduct an internal inquiry over the controversial use of a decapitated goat at a press event for God of War 2. Sony has now deemed it 'unsuitable' in nature and are currently conducting an internal investigation to ensure that such an offencive happening does not repeat itself once again in the future.

"It has come to our attention that at The God of War 2 launch showcase held in Athens, Greece, on 1st March 2007, an element of the event was of an unsuitable nature," a spokesperson said.

"Whilst we pride ourselves on creating engaging experiences we are committed to making sure these are appropriate in nature and do not cause offence to either attendees or our consumers in general.

"We are conducting an internal inquiry into aspects of the event in order to learn from the occurrence and put into place measures to ensure that this does not happen again."

Sony recalls 80,000 copies of the OPM after goat stunt - 'we didn't slaughter it'

Sony's ill-advised decision to feature a decapitated goat at a launch party for God of War II on the PS2 console was recently blasted by the UK's Mail on Sunday newspaper. Editors from the Mail on Sunday, a respectable paper, spoke with a great shock regarding the event in a double page spread in the paper. Sony has responded by organizing a recall of some 80,000 copies of the Official Playstation Magazine as well. Amazingly, Sony are looking to play down the event by claiming they did not slaughter the animal for the event, but instead bought it from a local Greek butcher.

The stunt was covered in a double page spread in the Official PlayStation Magazine. Sony has now decided to recall the 80,000 print run of the issue.

A Sony spokesperson told The Mail that the animal had not been slaughtered for the event, but that it had been bought from a local butcher by the Greek company hired to organise the party.

He added that Sonyʼs UK office had been shocked to see the report in OPSM, and that the article had been pulled off newsstands because of the “sensitivity of the general public over issues of animal welfare”.

God Of War II was released on PS2 last week.

Kutaragi to Work with Sony on PS4, 5, 6

Although he is moving on, the father of PlayStation will still be aiding the system's development.

In an interview with EE Times, outgoing Sony executive Ken Kutaragi has revealed plans to continue working with Sony on the PlayStation 4, 5, and 6. The PS3 should also be well taken care of, as Kutaragi has already planned out the console's design changes and cost-reducing measures over the next couple years. The next step for the system is to further develop the PlayStation Network.

"As a matter of course, I have the vision of PlayStation 4, 5, and 6, which will merge into the network," Kutaragi says.

The father of the PlayStation was waiting until the PS3 was released in Europe to start talking about future versions of the console. "We've introduced PS3 in Europe, so now I can openly talk about" future plans, he said.

Sony announced last week that Kutaragi would be stepping down from his position as President and Group COO of Sony Computer Entertainment on June 19. Although he will be primarily focused on independent projects, he will maintain a professional relationship with Sony. "Now I'm ready to start working with a much wider world," Kutaragi tells EE Times.

Warhawk hands-on + Interview

450_warhawk.jpg

Game Informer has a brand new hands-on with everybody's favorite is-it-or-isn't-it downloadable title, Warhawk. They got to go a couple rounds with Incognito's follow-up to the original PSX launch hit and appear to have come away impressed. Gameplay sounds like a fun combination of a faster-paced Battlefield 2 melded together with a sci-fi take on the Xbox sleeper Crimson Skies. Game Informer also loved the SIXAXIS controls, saying that they worked 'extremely well' and were 'very intuitive and natural'. Good news for people still wary over the validity of motion controls (though they confirmed there is an option to fly 'old school' for those stuck in the past).

They also have a great interview with Warhawk's Game Director, Dylan Jobe. He talks a lot about the online experience, and it is well worth checking out. To top it all off, they have a bunch of new screenshots too. Check it out while it's hot!

New FolksSoul screenshots

folks4.jpg

Following last week's announcement that a FolksSoul demo would be released in June, Game Republic also sent out a new batch of screenshots. They look pretty good, but suffer from an unfortunate amount of JPEG compression issues and look a bit washed out. We do get a rare shot of the UI in the first screenshot though, giving a tantalizing peek at what it might be like to actually play the game.

We haven't really seen much about this game since TGS 2006, but with a Japanese release date of June 21st, we should start hearing more about this intriguing title soon.

Behind the scenes of PlayStation Eye

Newsweek, always known for their hard-hitting interviews, tackles a tough Q&A with Dr. Richard Marks regarding Sony's EyeToy 2.0. The bottom-line? The new PlayStation Eye rocks. Hard. Here are the important details:

  • It's not the "eye," but the "ear" that truly differentiates the new device. The hands-free voice input may be the single most important feature of Playstation Eye.
  • The camera works in extremely low light. Tests showed that just the illumination of a flat-screen monitor was enough to illuminate image subjects.
  • The device supports both 640 x 480 resolution at 60 frames per second and 320 x 240 resolution at 120 frames per second.
  • Playstation Eye was designed to mirror the cost structure of the original EyeToy. Translation: you should be able to afford this.

There's lots more info in the excellent and full article over at Newsweek. Sign us up for one of those badboys! Especially after seeing it in action.

New Tekken 6 scans

tekken6good.jpg

A handful of new Tekken 6 scans have popped up online for your perusal. Taken from a Japanese magazine, the quality of the scans isn't fantastic, but they are good enough to show off some nice lighting and texture detail.

We also get a peek at Yoshimitsu's new design. Everybody's philanthropic robot is looking a lot more dark and evil these days. Maybe he didn't like getting shot in the face in Bryan's Tekken 5 end-game cinematic...

Ryu Reveals Gaiden Box

Sigma's final cover goes public

Reps from Tecmo America have unveiled the final retail slipcase for its anticipated PS3 "re-imagining" of the Xbox do-over of the also-Xbox remake of the NES classic Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

"That box looks pretty sweet," said Chris Roper, Executive Editor, IGN PlayStation Team. "I like the look of all that cloth hanging from his face -- but it's huge!"

For the unfamiliar, Ninja Gaiden Sigma follows stealthy badass Ryu Hayabusa as he sets out on a brutal quest for revenge against the evil Vigor Empire. The bastards massacred his entire village after all, and it's payback time.

In addition to all the same moves and enemies found in the previous Xbox version, the new PS3 edition of Ninja Gaiden also includes all-new maneuvers, extra weapons, and additional playable character, Rachael.

Turok Looking Fine

Dinosauring to new heights.

Turok is a series with a rocky past, but the latest instalment for PS3 and Xbox 360 looks to be shaping up well, as these new screenshots attest. Newcomers to the Turok franchise Propaganda Games are crafting a title that brings all the hallmark elements back - big guns, bigger explosions and erm, the biggest enemies, but with a new level of sophistication, both technically, and in terms of the game world's ecosystem. Intrigued?
