President Admits Sony Has Yet To Actually Produce PS3 >

 

Kaz Hirai today has admitted that the company has yet to even begin producing its next-generation gaming console, the PlayStation 3. Despite the rumors, according to Sony they said they will still meet its scheduled November launch of the PS3. Could this mean console shortages for Sony?

LGC 2006: Ubisoft Dev Confirms Assassin's Creed Demo

Could it be packed in with the PS3? 'Twould be nice.

 

Claude Langlais, technical director on Ubisoft Montreal's Assassin's Creed wouldn't confirm the existence of an Xbox 360 version of the game (he did, however, emphatically deny reports that engineers from Microsoft were embedded at Ubisoft Montreal working on the game's development), but he did confirm that before Assassin's Creed ships in March of 2007, Ubisoft Montreal intends on releasing a demo of the game.

 

Will the demo be included with a magazine? Distributed over PlayStation 3's online service? Packed in with the console? Included in an issue of Official Xbox Magazine? The only solid answer to those questions was an answer to the last one: "Assassin's Creed has only been announced for PS3."

Want to play soccer on a next-gen platform? As their press conference from the Leipzig Game Convention concluded, Microsoft announced that both Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (stateside, we call it Winning Eleven) and FIFA 07 (stateside, we call it, uh, FIFA) would be exclusive to its Xbox 360 for the next twelve months.

LGC 2006: How Exclusive is Lost Planet?

Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi, talks pre-release DLC and exclusivity.

 

You know the "Only on Xbox 360" label that is slapped on select 360 titles? How exclusive are these games really? It's a question we posed to Jun Takeuchi, one half of the producer duo (Keiji Inafune is the other half of this twosome) behind Capcom's excellent-thus-far Lost Planet, at the Leipzig Game Convention.

 

"We will try to keep it as a 360 exclusive," Takeuchi said. "But, from the company's point of view, when you think about the business, in the future it's something [port the game to PS3] we might have to do." If the Japanese market wants the title bad enough, it seems possible that there could be a Lost Planet on PS3 -- remember Resident Evil 4?

 

Capcom is one of the few Japanese developers embracing the Xbox 360 ('sup, Dead Rising) despite the console's underperformance dismal showing in Japan, but the system's lack of success in Capcom's backyard doesn't phase Takeuchi. "We are minorities in Japan, we're one of the few 360 developers [from there], but we don't think that's a bad thing. We're trying to appeal to the worldwide audience; we hope that more Japanese publishers realize there are more markets outside of Japan."

 

With the playable demo for Lost Planet's multiplayer demo, there's been speculation as to whether or not gamers would see another piece of downloadable content ahead of the game's release. Takeuchi cryptically addresses that scenario: "We don't know if it's going to be a multiplayer demo or not, but we will upload something to keep the users busy until release."
