Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Announces Hardware Specification of PLAYSTATION®3 for Europe

 

 

The European PS3 will feature the Cell Broadband Engine™, 60 GB hard disc drive, Blu-ray Disc player, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, SIXAXIS™ wireless controller. It also embodies a new combination of hardware and software emulation which will enable PS3 to be compatible with a broad range of original PlayStation® (PS) titles and a limited range of PlayStation®2 (PS2) titles.

 

“PS3 is first and foremost a system that excels in playing games specifically designed to exploit the power and potential of the PS3 system,” said David Reeves, President of SCEE. “Games designed for PS3 offer incredible graphics quality, stunning gameplay and massively improved audio and video fidelity that is simply not achievable with PS and PS2 games. Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology.”

 

Some additional PS2 titles will become compatible on the PS3 system through regular downloadable firmware updates, which will be made available through the PLAYSTATION®Network, from http://www.playstation.com or via PS3 game discs, with the first update planned for the launch date of the 23rd March 2007.

 

Users will be able to check whether their titles are compatible with PS3 at http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc. This site will be available on 23rd March to meet launch day.

 

1. A device compatible with Linear PCM 7.1 Ch is required to output 7.1 ch audio, supported by Dolby TrueHD or a similar format, from the HDMI OUT connector.

 

2. This system does not support output from the DTS-HD 7.1 Ch. DTS-HD 7.1 Ch audio is output from a 5.1 or lower channel.

 

3. Usability of all storage media types is not guaranteed.

 

4. Certain PlayStation 2 format software titles may not perform properly on this system. Visit faq.eu.playstation.com/bc for the latest information regarding compatible titles

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The European version of PlayStation 3 will play fewer

PlayStation 2 video games when it launches on March 23 compared with models launched earlier in Japan and America, Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news) (6758.T) said on Friday.

 

 

"The backwards compatibility is not going to be as good as the U.S. and Japan models," a Sony spokesman said.

 

PlayStation 3 (PS3) was first launched in Japan and North America in November and the model that will be introduced in Europe will be designed differently.

 

Software will take over some of the functionality that was originally taken care of by dedicated chips, which means far fewer PlayStation 2 (PS2) games can be played on a European PS3 compared with the Japanese and American PS3 models which play 98 percent of old games.

"Sony is managing expectations by saying now that the new console will play fewer of the old games, and that's a good thing," said analyst Alex Kwiatowski at British market research group Vertical Market Technologies.

 

Over the last 18 months Sony has had a series of public relations disasters, including a recall of nearly 10 million of its computer batteries, PS3 delays and a software program on Sony Entertainment music CDs that breached computer security.

 

Kwiatowski said gamers with a PS2 would have to hold onto their device to play their current collection.

 

"I'm as disappointed as the next game player about the reduced backward compatibility, but even the most nostalgic, misty-eyed gamers will have their steely hearts impressed by the new features that PS3 games provide," Kwiatowski said.

 

The PS3's graphics and sound capabilities are much improved over the PS2.

 

"Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3," Sony Computer Entertainment said in a statement.

 

About one million units will be available at the European launch next month, as many as were made available in the United States during the first six weeks after the launch last year.

 

Sony loses money at first on each PS3 sale due to high production costs.

 

But Nobuyuki Oneda, Sony's chief financial officer, said in January the company aims to bring the negative PS3 margin to break even toward the second half of the next business year, which starts in April, by component cost savings on chips driving the PS3.

 

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Sony Corp. said on Thursday it will launch the high-end version of its PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console on March 23 in Europe, but it has no plan at the moment to offer the basic model there.

 

The electronics and entertainment conglomerate last September delayed the European launch of the PS3, Sony's most important strategic product for this business year, to March from November due to a production glitch.

 

"We will focus on the launch of the one with a 60 gigabyte (GB) drive and have no plan now to introduce the 20 gigabyte model," Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka said.

kallair ο μονος τροπος να κανει "emulate" τα παιχνιδια, ειναι καποιοι να στρωσουν την κολαρα τους κατω και να γραψουνε τρελο κωδικα.

 

οσο πιο συνθετο ητανε το παιχνιδι στο ps2, τοσο πιο δυσκολα θα τρεξει σε soft. emu στο "δυστροπο" ps3.

 

οταν η microsoft δεν καταφερε να το πετυχει αυτο , που ειναι software εταιρεια και το 360 ειναι παιχνιδακι σε σχεση με το ps3, και εριξε και ενα τονο λεφτα εκει περα, (ωστε να ανταγωνιστει τη sony που εταζε 100% backward compatibility με ps1 και ps2)

τι περιμενεις να πετυχει η sony?

 

μην συγκρινουμε μηλα με πορτοκαλια λοιπον, οντως.

 

 

η m$ δεν ξηλωσε ποτε απο το 360 καποια λειτουργια. ειδικα μαλιστα την λειτουργεια που διατυμπανιζει απο το 2005 σε ολο τον κοσμο.

 

με βλεπω για σιγκαπουρεζικο...

αϊντε να δουμε και καμια φωτο απο το νεο "σασι" του ps3.. να δουμε τι φρουτο ειναι κι αυτο..

αν θελεις, σε παρακαλω αρχισε και ριχνε μεσα στο ελληνικο playstation3 σου, ο,τι τιτλο καλο για ps2 εχεις.

 

ξεκινα απο ενα gran turismo, συνεχισε με god of war κλπ κλπ ωστε να μας πληροφορησεις για το ποια games ειναι συμβατα χωρις την emotion engine και το g.s. (τα κομματια που αφαιρεθηκαν απο το ps3)

 

 

η προσφορα σου θα εκτιμηθει τα μαλα!!

Ναι οντως διορθωσαν καποια προβληματα στα hardware που αφορουσε αρκετες κονσολες , αλλα ...

1)οσες κονσολες εχουν προβλημα αντικαθιστουνται

(για αυτο το λογο υπαρχει και η εγγυηση ..)

2) Δεν αφαιρεσαν τιποτα απο τις λειτουργειες που υπαρχουν ιδιες σε ολα τα xbox360 παγκοσμιως..

Οσον αφορα τα extra features που ΘΑ μπουν στο νεο μοντελο OTAN θα βγει..αυτα δεν αφαιρουν τιποτα απο τις δυνατοτητες του τωρινου xbox360, αλλα προσθετει ....

Αν μας ενοχλει αυτο θα πρεπει να αρχισουμε να κατηγορουμε ολες τις αυτοκινητοβιομηχανιες, τις εταιριες κατασκευης κινητων κ.λ.π

 

Ενω στο Ps3 λενε γα μειωση κοστους παραγωγης , αλλα εμεις ΔΕΝ το βλεπουμε (το αντιθετο μαλιστα..)

και υπαρχει και αφαιρεση λειτουργειων σε σχεση με τα αλλα PS3 (usa/jpn)...
