Playstation Network Platform Ready To Go...Online!

A recent preview by Gamespot denotes that they played Full Auto 2 for the PS3 on Playstation network platform, this ultimately leaves us and them with belief that the online platform has been ready for quite some time!

It's also worth noting that we played Full Auto 2's multiplayer on the actual PlayStation network platform, so apparently Sony already has its online gaming infrastructure up and running well ahead of the new system's release. Of course, we're just as curious as you are about how the PlayStation 3's first round of games will turn out, so stay tuned for more on Full Auto 2 and all of Sony's other launch titles in the coming months.

PS3 Version

FEAR_PS3_01.jpg

Our very own site administrator, Otacon, will have the privilege of being able to attend the convention, despite recent forum and blog entries stating it would not be possible. He will be attending the convention holding a press pass representing MGS:TUS.

απο τη συνεντευξη του Hirai:

GS: So is the PS3 already being manufactured?

KH: We haven't started manufacturing yet. Some of our ops guys were actually just in China, and also in Japan just reviewing the [production] lines and everything else. But they are, again, preparing as we speak to get the manufacturing going. We've not announced and we haven't set really a specific date to say, "As of this day we're going to start manufacturing."

Well, I think that you know this is all relative, but you need to put it in context.

I think that we've always talked about shipping 2 million units worldwide within the calendar year.

Since we're going with three territories, we haven't really come up with an allocation just yet. But even if you do the simple math you're talking about less than 700,000 units per territory, per major territory between launch and the end of the year.

Picture Special: PS3 20GB Vs PS3 60GB

Silconera has posted up some quality pictures which highlight the differences between the 20GB and 60GB PS3 versions in terms of the way they look. I wasn't actually aware of the differences in looks until I laid my eyes on these pics! After browsing the images, anything less than a 60GB is an insult :).

PS3 Not in Production Yet

PS1 games on PSP to be available this year, too.

UPDATE: Following the publication of 1UP's story this afternoon, Sony contacted us to clarify a few points, especially considering our speculative commentary at the end. "Unfortunately Kaz Hirai's comments in the recent GameSpot interview regarding PLAYSTATION 3 production were misunderstood. We are still on schedule to ship 2 million units for our mid-November 2006 launch and additional 2 million units by the end of the year for a total of 4 million units," said a Sony spokesperson.

Were they really misunderstood? Despite Sony's schedule promises, people (1UP included) are still curious to see if they can live up to their promises. Public declarations of being on schedule doesn't change the fact that PS3 is the most complicated piece of gaming hardware ever devised, it's less three months from launch, and the machine's still not in production.

ORIGINAL STORY: Over the weekend, the Internet flared over a GameSpot interview with Sony Computer Entertainment America president Kaz Hirai. We haven't heard much from Sony executives since E3, and Hirai managed cleared several controversial subjects surrounding PlayStation 3 and Sony's others plans for 2006 and beyond.

Instead of making this all flowery, let's get to the point: what did Hirai have to say?

PS3 is not yet in production. "We've not announced and we haven't set really a specific date to say, "As of this day we're going to start manufacturing," he says.

Launch titles for PS3 have not yet been determined, and don't expect confirmation until about a month before launch.

PS3 will be online on day one, and multimedia content will not be limited to Sony-released music, movies, etc.

PSP's download service is still in development. A release date, however, is TBA.

Sony plans to release the first batch of emulated PlayStation games for PSP this year and very close to PS3's launch, if they can manage it.

No redesign or price drop is currently on Sony's agenda (publically, at least).

Hirai spins the disastrous UMD situation. "If there are advantages, or for the motion picture companies to take advantage of UMD to deliver their content or music companies to deliver their content on UMDs, that's great," he says.

Can Sony really maintain its E3 promise of two million units worldwide for the November launch?

Playstation 3 Demos Look Great

Theinquirer are reporting a potentially dubious article which says inside sources had a glimpse of PS3 demos and say they look astonishing. They also take the opportunity to confirm that Nvidia have no problems in producing the RSX graphics chip.

Nvidia is using existing G71 renamed to RSX as the graphic core of choice for Playstation 3 and even it can not technologically match ATI's Xenos it still offers a lot of potential if used wisely.

Our source says the demos look astonishing.

Sony is super secretive about the demos but we reckon it won't be long before we see some of them. We expect to see some at the Games Convention that starts tomorrow in Leipzig, Germany.

We can confirm that Nvidia doesnʼt have any troubles producing as many RSX chips as it wants. It's not that hard to make this chip running at 550MHz, developed on the proven 90 nanometre marchitecture.
