Wada Has High Hopes for PS3

Square Enix exec expects Sony market to take off in 2008.

Yoichi Wada is one of the most outspoken industry figures in Japan, often sharing his thoughts as one of his two identities: chairman of the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association or president of Square Enix. In a recent interview with Japan's Nikkei BP, Wada assumed the latter form as he discussed Dragon Quest and the future of the PS3.

 

With Dragon Quest IX coming out for the DS, Wada fielded a question about this meaning a shift in Square Enix's development strategy towards the platform. This isn't necessarily the case. "Following portable machines, we see the market for the PlayStation 3 and other next generation consoles taking off, so we will develop for that."

 

In fact, nothing has apparently been decided for the next Dragon Quest. "Aside from the Dragon Quest titles that have been announced, nothing has been decided. We're not thinking about fixing [the series] on the DS."

 

The Square Enix president seems to have a lot of faith in the PS3. "We have expectations from the PS3. However, it's still early. For us to do business [on the platform], it will take a bit more time."

 

Wada expects a shift to the PS3 to begin first with a more pronounced shift to high definition television sets. "Once the television environment is in place, at last the true game business will form. I see the PS3 market taking off starting around 2008."

 

"Some journalists don't understand that there's a difference in the amount of time hardware takes to spread and have taken the tone of 'the world of high vision, high quality gaming has come to an end.' However, once you see the world of high vision, there's no going back."

 

Closing up, Wada offered his vision for how gamers will split across all the various systems out there. "I believe casual gamers will go to the Wii, DS, or even PSP while those who want to have a fuller experience will go to the PS3 and Xbox 360."

Ελπιζω να μην ειμαι off topic, απλα σημερα δοκιμασα ενα PS3 στο Πλαισιο και θελω να πω τις εντυπωσεις μου.

 

Καταρχας, ειμαι φιλος του PS.Αρχικα, με ξενισε το μεγεθος του.Ρε σεις αυτο ειναι ''γομαρι''.Δεν περιμενα να ειναι τοσο μεγαλο.Επισης με χαλαει το χειριστηριο που ειναι ιδιο με το παλιο.Καλο, αλλα το εχω βαρεθει.

 

Σαν παιχνιδι, δοκιμασα το Ridge Racer 7.Ξερω πως ειναι πολυ arcade η σειρα, αλλα δεν ενθουσιαστικα.Το επαιξα σε HD TV και ομολογω πως τα γραφικα δεν ειναι κατι το ιδιαιτερο.Δλδ περιπου το ιδιο ειναι και το GT4(PS2) στη δικη μου HD TV, μεσω scart.Ωστοσο, ειναι ενα μεμονωμενο game, οποτε δεν μπορω να βγαλω γενικο συμπερασμα.

 

Πριν τα ακουσω απο τους φιλους του PS, να σημειωσω πως και εγω ειμαι τεραστιος φαν των PS και ποτε δε θα επαιρνα XBOX.Απλα δε με ενθουσιασε, οσο περιμενα.Ισως να φταιει και το game.

Enchant Arm

 

With Enchant Arm on the Playstation 3 FROM Software took a decent RPG and killed it. The graphics look worse, the load times are worse, and the framerate is just plain awful when compared to its XBOX 360 cousin. As far as I can tell this version should never have been released as load times for encounters are some of the longest I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through. Remove rumble and achievements and replace them with some tacked on Sixaxis actions that are required and you have the recipe for one of the worst ports in the new generation of consoles.

Confirmed: MotorStorm runs at 720p

In a recent interview, a developer behind the PS3 exclusive Motorstorm has revealed that the official resolution for the game is just 720p. He's also confident that the game uses a large proportion of the PS3's resources and that it takes up most of the blu-ray medium BUT there is always better to come.

Virtua Fighter 5 - North American version to only support 720p?

A gaming website has gotten their hands on a retail boxed copy of Virtua Fighter 5 but alarmingly the box states that it only supports the 720p resolution. It's either a case of a typo or HD mix-up, while Japanese owners of the game claim 1080p doesn't look right on the game despite the box claiming that it is compatible with the resolution.
