Remedy: We can’t tell you anything about Alan Wake

In an interview with Norwegian site, Gamer.no, Remedy Games’ head of franchise development Oskari Häkkinen has revealed to he can’t say anything about Alan Wake. Not a smidgeon.

“I can not tell you anything about Alan Wake right now, not even progress on Alan Wake,” he said.

What he did say however, was that a comparison to Silent Hill was justified, meaning that the game will be heavy on atmosphere, story and puzzle-solving. Although he was quick to add there will be no zombies in Alan Wake. Shame.

Alan Wake was announced in 2005 for PC and Xbox 360.

Delayed Alan Wake given new life with mo-cap tech

New signs of life from the Alan Wake project has emerged with developer Remedy announcing its partnership with motion-capture group Imagination Studios.

Imagination Studios (formerly known as Northern Light Studios) has supplied the Finnish developer with "motion-capture and animations" to assist in the game’s elongated production.

Lasse Seppänen, Executive Producer at Remedy Entertainment said that “it is with great pleasure that we can recommend Imagination Studios. Remedy has been extremely pleased with their co-operation and devotion in bringing the characters of Alan Wake to life.”

Seppänen said Imagination Studios were a reliable company with terrific production quality.

The fate of Alan Wake has been thrown into doubt several times ever since the game began development back in 2005. Those interested in the new IP have been subjected to unnerving spells of silence from the development team, sparking sporadic rumours that the game will not make it to shop shelves.

As Rockstar recently announced that the upcoming third edition of Max Payne will not be the responsibility of Remedy – the studio responsible for the first two titles – there were (perhaps encouraging) signs that the Espoo-based team are working at full capacity.

This new announcement will no doubt act as another reminder that Alan Wake is still going strong.

Return of Alan Wake news site prompts hint of E3 appearance from Remedy staffer

Brightfalls.net, an Alan Wake fan news site officially sanctioned (and hosted) by developer Remedy, has been out of commission for all of 2009. The site has just popped back up, leading one conspiracy-minded Alan Wake forum poster, "shorty," to conjecture that the site is back up in anticipation of some Alan Wake news. Specifically, "that Alan Wake will be shown at E3 on Monday!"

The theories of one guy on a forum may not be enough to base a rumor on, but the following post makes us think something really may be happening. Remedy staffer and forum administrator JoukoRMD responded to that post with "Well, maybe (brightfalls.net site lead) ADM has that feeling too, and thus brought back brightfalls.net," ending with a ;) emoticon. Does that wink signify some secret knowledge? We suppose we'll find out Monday.

Alan Wake Hitting in Spring 2010

Remedy's long-awaited supernatural action-adventure title Alan Wake will be released for Xbox 360 in spring 2010, the development team announced today. A release date for the promised PC version was not mentioned.

A brief demonstration of the game was shown prior to the date announcement, with protagonist Alan Wake chasing after companion Rusty--said to hold the manuscript pages Wake needs top save his wife Alice--whilst fighting off seemingly flannel-clad enemies, mysterious floating objects, and a huge flock of shadowy birds.

The game's human-like enemies, apparently miners or lumberjacks given the lush (though dark) forest setting, were shown as being weak to light, with Wake using a flashlight and flare gun to burn them as he ducked and avoided their attacks and tossed objects. The flashlight required the player to finish the foes off with a gun, while the flare gun and the resulting bloom took care of two foes standing next to each other.
