Publisher THQ and developer Relic today officially announced that the second expansion pack in the Dawn of War franchise, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade, is currently in development. The game will feature two new playable races, the Tau Empire and the Necrons, bringing the number of totally unique races to an unprecedented seven. The game is expected to release in fall 2006.

In addition to the two new playable races, Dark Crusade will feature an all-new single player campaign centering on the conquest of a "meta-map," with each territory captured giving tangible rewards to the occupying force. A greatly expanded multiplayer component and a completely unique economy model for the Necrons will present gamers with the most compelling Dawn of War game to-date.

Will have a meta-map single player campaign not unlike Dune 2 or the LOTR Battle for Middle Earth games.

- The campaign will have a different story for each army that unfolds as you play and how you play.

- The campaign will reward players for holding more areas by giving them gear to enhance their commander units. These upgrades show visually on the model.

- The game will feature the five existing armies of the Dawn of War series (Space Marines, Chaos, Eldar, Orks and Imperial Guard) and include two new armies the Tau and Necrons.

- Dark Crusade can be purchased and played as a stand-alone game not requiring Dawn of War OR its first expansion Winter Assault to be playable. You will be able to play as any army in the campaign mode, but if you do not have DoW or WA you can only play as Tau or Necrons online.

- Necron armies have a semi-unique economy system.

- The Necron Relic (ultimate) unit is the Monolith.

- The Tau Relic unit is the Great Gnarloc (A giant kroot T-Rex).

- Each existing army gets a new unit in Dark Crusade.

- Space Marines get the Grey Knights as depicted in the article.

- Chaos can upgrade their Lord at the higher tier of gameplay into a Daemon Prince.

- Eldar will receive the ability to produce three Harlequins who can join squads and can instant kill enemy characters.

- The Imperial Guard get heavy weapons units which are infantry groups that deploy and undeploy fixed firing positions much like a Siege Tank from Starcraft.

- Orks get Flash Gitz, a unit that is flimsy and does little damage while moving, but when firing from a stationary position will do a huge amount of damage to their opponents.

Εκτός αν τους βάλουν σαν enemy race όπως τους Necrons στο Winter Assault.

Κατά τ'άλλα οι Tau συμπαθητικοί, αλλά επειδή είμαι των παραδόσεων θα παραμείνω με τους Space Marines.

Λείπει να δούμε οι Necrons τι κάνουν.
