Radeon X1800GTO and X1900XL launch info

There has been a fair amount of talk doing the rounds recently regarding ATI beefing up their Radeon X1800 and X1900-based product line-ups respectively. We can now reveal that this information is indeed correct and that a little over a month from now, on March 23rd, ATI will be launching two new products.

 

First up is the Radeon X1800 GTO, based around the R520 core and most likely featuring twelve pixel pipelines (i.e. one of the four quads present on the core disabled). This will likely be clocked with both core and memory speeds of 500MHz (Giving 1GHz effective clock for RAM), and should fit in at the US $249 price point currently inhabited by NVIDIA's GeForce 6800GS.

 

On the same date, a Radeon X1900 XL part should also become a reality - This will make use of the R580 core thus far used on Radeon X1900 XT and XTX SKUs. Most likely, this part will retain the full sixteen pixel pipelines and 48 pixel shader units available in the core, but be clocked lower than its XT and XTX counterparts. This should ensure that the part can make use of a single-slot cooling solution, and will also quite possibly be fitted with 256MB of RAM to keep the cost down.

 

Be sure to note down March 23rd in your calendars if either of these parts tickle your fancy - Both of these parts should be 'hard launched' a la the Radeon X1900 XT and XTX by ATI, and thus should be available to purchase on launch day.
