privateer Δημοσ. 17 Αυγούστου 2007 Μέλος Δημοσ. 17 Αυγούστου 2007 Crysis Beta Coming Soon It looks like FilePlanet might be getting the Crysis multiplayer beta pretty soon, if this PR is any clue: IGN Entertainmentʼs GameSpy, a leader in multi-platform online gaming technology, today announced a licensing deal to incorporate GameSpyʼs multiplayer online technology into Crytekʼs upcoming sci-fi, first-person shooter game, Crysis. Under the terms of the agreement, Crytek will utilize a broad range of GameSpy technologies for online gaming and community integration in the upcoming release of Crysis. Additionally, Crytek will leverage GameSpyʼs Beta testing program to expose the game to a worldwide network of gaming enthusiasts. [...] GameSpy will also be hosting a beta test program for Crysis, giving Crytek the ability to test Crysis with gaming enthusiasts. To be available at FilePlanet, (http://www.fileplanet.com/), this beta program will allow Crytek to fine-tune Crysis and receive feedback on gameplay, while detecting any early problems within the game. The beta test program will provide invaluable feedback and generate buzz for the game leading up to its November release.
privateer Δημοσ. 17 Αυγούστου 2007 Μέλος Δημοσ. 17 Αυγούστου 2007 Yeah, I played it at the Dell tent as well today. They had a bunch of XPS desktops and laptops running some Sims 2 expansion, C&C 3 and a preview of Crysis. The first mission contains a lot of tutorial stuff. You get the standard duck under this obstacle, jump over this one, kill this guy, scope and kill these guys. Cool addition is pick up this box and throw it and melee attack to break this obstacle. After the basic movement obstacles and encounters, you meet up with another Delta operator wearing the same nano suit as you. You follow him for a bit and find a bunch (half dozen?) of dead North Korean soldiers. There is a cut screen where you see the other operator looking at the various bodies. You then see a big pool of blood, look up and see another operator (with the same nano suit) hanging from a tree. The dead operator glows and turns into dust (foreshadowing, anyone?). You then go forward by yourself and kill a patrol of two Koreans. Your GPS mini-map starts getting fuzzy and you get the option of destroying a GPS jammer or skipping to the next object (something like meet up at the rally point). You find a bay where the GPS jammer is located. There are a bunch of enemy soldiers and a boat patrolling the bay. Unfortunately, the game locked up after I killed the soldiers, so I didn't have the chance to kill the boat or the GPS jammer. Note that the desktops didn't have speakers or headphones, so no sound (makes the cutscreen kind of hard to follow). Notes: 1. Physics is really cool. As I noted, you get to throw a box, which breaks when it hits the ground. You also get to break a wooden board with your melee attack, which does a cool shattering. However, as awesome as the physics is, I don't know how much difference it actually makes in the game. 2. It doesn't look like the game is for rambos. Cover is both necessary to protect against bullets, but also makes it a lot harder for your enemies to see your position (I used a silencer for the entire mission). You do regain health when you aren't taking damage, however. 3. Enemy AI is awesome. If you are in cover, you enemies realistically have a hard time finding you. Looks like they use hand signals to each other. Once they see you they do a fairly good job getting to cover. Killing one guy often causes others to run around looking for you. One time, I killed one guy in a patrol, and his friend tried to run away. They certainly aren't cheating and tracking your position. 4. Draw distance is awesome. When you get to the bay (during the destroy GPS jammer part), you are on a hill and the entire landscape opens up. The entire view is detailed, and makes for one of the coolest views I've seen in a computer game. 5. The game is very unstable and needs quite a bit of work. Many of the desktops had locked up, and I had the game lock up twice on me. Textures weren't particularly detailed (might have been due to the graphics settings, or an intentional restriction for the demo). During one of the lock ups, the operator you meet up with didn't move forward (you follow him during that part), and the game locked up soon after. 6. The movements feel realistic. Realistic turning, jumping actually feels like it is exoskeleton boosted. 7. Saw someone driving a vehicle. Looked like the windshield was breaking as it took bullets. 8. First mission is against North Korean only (duh), so I didn't get a chance to see the aliens. Other than the possibly alien influenced dead-operator dissipating. Overall, very cool. Raises my impression of the game from "glorified-tech-demo" to "strong-potential-for-excellent-gameplay". I don't have pictures (I didn't bring my digital camera, don't know if they would have let me anyway). I'm a strong believer in "pics or it didn't happen", but I have two links that might help: Dell's site, including a list of schedule dates (including the Columbus, OH fair): Extreme Gaming Tour Filefront post claiming Crysis is part of the dell gig: this post. Might have been a problem with the XPS desktops. Still, the stability isn't a whole lot worse that what I might expect from the game at the current stage of development, and I can't imagine the XPS's parts are radically different than what you would find in a normal box. I'm pretty sure the resolution was 1920x1200, and I think they had brushed aluminum. I don't recall any problems with colors, but that's kind of hard to say for certain. Wouldn't want to spend a small fortune on one, but it was fun to play on anyway A few more things I recall: 1. Controls: Left ctrl crouch, space jump, shift run (jump while running for an extra boost). c opens up the weapon load out menu. Middle mouse button (press the wheel mouse) switches modes. Standard WASD movement, plus E to lean right and Q to lean left. B activates binoculars, which highlights enemies when you focus on them. I'm not sure how reloading works, R doesn't seem to reload but you do run out of ammo and reload. Standard left click fire, right click zoom. I didn't think to try to switch weapons (*facepalms*), but I assume it is mouse wheel up/down. Hold tab to view objectives and their positions. 2. Weapon load menu switches the attachments, scope, ammo, etc. For my weapon, you could switch between silencer/no-silencer and switch between ironsight and reflex scope. The UI works by showing a side view of the gun (you've probably seen screenshots of this), and circling each part that can be changed. Each circle has a number, and pressing that number changes that part (ex: silencer's circle was 1, pressing 1 switched between silencer/no-silencer). Press c again to close the menu. Very smooth, even if my weapon choices were limited. 3. Mode switches between strength/speed/stealth modes (I think they give you a bonus, for example strength makes you stronger [i haven't really been following Crysis closely, but I recall reading a preview that mentioned that]). Stealth makes you invisible (?) for a short period of time (?). The tutorial recommending stealth mode when I encountered a patrol, but the stealth turned off right when I got close to them, so I'm not 100% sure how it works. The UI is a 'circle' of different options, I think you move the mouse to switch between them and light click (?) to activate a different mode. 4. There is an alarm symbol for how alerted the enemy is to your presense. Didn't seem to be work because I think it was max even before I shot anyone. 5. As mentioned before, you have a GPS mini-map. This records your position, direction/location of objectives, plus friendly and enemy positions. 6. Game uses check points. 7. Saw a living turtle on a beach. Actually moved, looked realistic. Very nice doodad. For you sadistic freaks, you can probably shoot it. Okay, that's all I got for now. Let me know if you have any other questions. http://forums.filefront.com/farcry-general-discussion/323558-crysis-beta-demo-part-extreme-gaming-tour.html#post3853685
