Fable 2 Pub Games Exploit Fixed

Lionhead Studios released a patch for the Fable 2 Pub Games that resets the Fortunes Tower leaderboards and fixes the famous gold exploit.

Peter Molyneux said a few days ago that this was an “intentional” bug, so how come they are fixing it now? And will Lion Head keep their promise to “punish” those who cheated?

I guess we will have to wait for October 21 to get our answers…

Weʼre playing Far Cry 2 right now - tell us what you want to know

Weʼre sitting in Ubisoftʼs UK offices playing the most recent build of Far Cry 2. Want to know anything? Weʼre going to start playing now, and weʼve got a while, so if youʼve got any questions, just stick them in the comments. Weʼll do a few pieces from today over the coming weeks, but weʼll live blog this session as we go through for the sake of “the news”.

After the break.

* Right then. Pressing start. Theyʼve given us the 360 version to play.

* Itʼs the 360 version specifically, and theyʼve asked me to say that in the all the editorial.

* Nine characters to choose from. Going with Marty Alencar, the first option. Heʼs a 28 year-old Brazilian.

* Story stuff. Little war in Africa. We have to kill “the Jackal.” Thereʼs an opening sequence now which we canʼt talk about.

* Frame-rate very solid. Dynamic shadowing obvious. No visible stuttering so far.

* Canʼt skip this story part at the start.

* Load times fine - thereʼs no visible loading at all so far.

* OK, some loading, but very quick. It happened at the end of the first sequence. Weʼre now being briefed on “the target.”

* The whole thingʼs subtitled, as promised.

* In the game now. Weʼre getting motion cues, like “use LS to move.” Weʼve got to “escape the town.”

A to jump, B to crouch. Thereʼs a firefight going on outside the ruined building weʼre in. God rays through the dust. Sound of artillery and jets in the distance. Hardcore lighting: really pretty.

* Straight into a fight. LT to aim, RT to fire. X reloads. Health is in a bar in the left and drops as youʼre shot then goes back up when you get into cover. Y to swap weapons on the ground. Itʼs actually very similar in control to Gear of War, Blerk.

* PR just told me they want me to say itʼs the 360 version because of the screenshots, as there are slight visual differences between the versions.

* They also said that anything you want answered by the developers can be passed over. So anything we canʼt answer today can be sent to Montreal.

* Dead. First Achievement!

* LB to heal yourself. Just dug a bullet out of our leg with a knife.

* The guy that rescued us is now a mission hub.

* Heʼs teaching how to save. You just walk to a case on a shelf and press Y.

* Just bumped up health with an injection.

* Mellee weapon is a machete. You can carry three other weapons. Just got a rocket launcher.

* VOʼs brilliant. Gritty. Soundʼs surround. Itʼs all very slick, to be honest.

* Re shooting ratio: as soon as we left the mission hub place, my gun appeared.

* First mission is to fix a car.

* Mapʼs on “back”. Can change the map scale with X.

* The UI goes completely blank if you do nothing. Itʼs contextual. If youʼre just walking around thereʼs no info on the screen, just graphics.

* Just answered a phone call. Got to go kill some “shit-heads.” In the car.

* If you drive over foilage in the car it pings back up behind you. The red roadsigns on the fence posts lead you to your mission objective. Itʼs to stop you getting lost, obviously.

* In firefight. The openness is amazing. Flanked the objective and shot first guy from a distance, crouched in the grass.

* Best game foilage ever. Put that on the box, Ubi.

* Shot the second guy in the face at close range. Thatʼll teach you, second guy.

* The men were defending a safe house, which is now ours. We can sleep, meet buddies etc.

* The audio in the firefight was good: the men said things like, “Heʼs here somewhere” when they were searching for us. Also, the was a depth of field effect in the grass. When we crouched, the distance blurred and the grass came into sharp focus.

FFXIII Interview: Development Progress Update

Thanks to our forum member Shuyu, we have some scans from the latest issue of Official Playstation Magazine Australia which contains an interview with compilation developers Yoshinori Kitase and Shinji Hashimoto.

In the interview they reassure Playstation 3 owners that their version of Final Fantasy XIII hasn't been delayed at all and that the Xbox 360 version won't even be started until the PS3 release is burned to Blu-ray. As well as that, Kitase has given an update on the progress of development stating that the Scenario for Final Fantasy XIII is complete and the Artistic Side is 80% complete. New Golden Axe game gets date

SEGA plans to unleash PS3 and 360 action role-playing game Golden Axe: Beast Rider on 17th October.

Despite having initially been scheduled for September, we still know relatively little about this 2008 interpretation of a series that began in the arcades, back in 1989.

So far what we know comes from trailers; the lady warrior with barely any clothes appears to be the main character, and uses various types of beasts as mounts to get around and crush people with.

Golden Axe: Beast Rider will also carry an 18 rating for its assortment of blood and gore and dismemberments.

Head over to our Golden Axe: Beast Rider gamepage for the videos and screenshots released so far.

Xbox 360 hits 6m in Europe

Platform holder boasts of ʽstrong momentum' following price cuts

Microsoft has boasted of ʽstrong momentumʼ following last weekʼs UK price cuts – and announced that it has broken the six million sales mark in Europe.

The platform holder brought the entry-level SRP for the Arcade console down to £129.99 on Friday, with the standard 60GB 360 priced at £169.99 - leaving it with two consoles under Wii's bargain £179.99 pricetag.

The company also cut the price of its 120GB Elite to £229.99.

Chris Lewis, Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business EMEA, said: “Weʼre very excited that more consumers in Europe are joining the ever-growing Xbox 360 community.

Weʼre now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of £129.99, and consumers have clearly responded to that offering.

“Weʼre supporting this momentum by putting launch-level investment into a European advertising campaign, launching this week, which shows how Xbox 360 is changing the way consumers experience entertainment. With the New Xbox Experience on the horizon, and great titles like Lips, Scene It?; Youʼre In The Movies, Fable 2, and more, thereʼs never been a better time to jump in to all that Xbox 360 offers.”

Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway Review

Collectively, this is the impression you inherit after playing a title like Brothers in Arms: Hellʼs Highway. Itʼs both shocking and beautiful at the same time, much in the way that a program like Band of Brothers is. Sure, some of the backstory couldʼve used a little more clarification, and the squad member AI fails to impress at times, but the intuitive new features thoroughly outweigh any negatives you may uncover while playing. Despite the tired subject matter, Hellʼs Highway is the pinnacle of an impressive ongoing franchise, and is a collective tale of friendship and misfortune that does everyone involved proper justice.

We give Brothers in Arms: Hellʼs Highway a 9/10
