:cry:

First 360 IPTV Partner Announced

British Telecom will be the first cable provider to allow you to buy an Xbox 360 that can be used as a set-top box for IPTV, Robbie Bach announced tonight during Bill Gates' CES keynote. Gates first announced his plans to try and roll out the Xbox 360 as a set-top box at last year's CES. No word on what else might be inside this IPTV 360, like say a DVR. Sounds like the rumor was sort of half right.

To check out more of what Gates and Co are talking about during the keynote make sure to check out our liveblog from CES.

Microsoft: 360 on Track for Biggest Game Year in History

Robbie Bach says that the continuing success of the Xbox 360 is "another indication of the power of digital technology to transform the way people access and experience entertainment of all kinds."

Bach says that Microsoft sold 17.7 million consoles this season, surpassing their expectations and putting the 360 on track for the biggest year in video game history.

"With its continued momentum in games, accessories and digital entertainment via our leading online service Xbox LIVE, and record-setting games and accessory attach rates, evidence is everywhere that Xbox 360 is thriving," Bach said.

Microsoft: "Several" Unannounced Exclusive Games For Xbox 360 This Year

In a post-keynote email to Microsoft staff, Xbox chief Don Mattrick said that "several exciting yet-to-be-announced" games that are exclusive to Xbox 360 will be released in 2008.

This came after a list of previously announced exclusive games for 2008: Halo Wars, Too Human, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Fable 2.

Dean Takahashi was CC'ed on the email and has the complete text on his tech blog. It's worth a read-through.

Other notable comments from the recently-installed Xbox maestro:

* Microsoft's "mission" this year is for Xbox 360 to be "the console of choice for everyone in the family;"

* "History has shown that the eventual winner of each console generation was the console that generated the most 3rd party revenue," which is technically true, except I have serious doubts about the cause-and-effect relationship that Mattrick seems to be implying;

* This year's versions of Madden and FIFA will be "looking and playing better on our platform," which is a pretty bold statement eight months out;

* Wrapping all this up: "I believe we will close 2008 with Xbox 360 being the leader of this generation of consoles." That's rather vaguely worded, isn't it? Not even sure if he can be proven wrong on that.

Stranglehold maps on Live

Midway has put new maps for Stranglehold on Live, using its long and rather delicate fingers of giving.

We've told you all of this before, but inside the 1200 Point (GBP 10.20 / EUR 13.96) parcel are ten new multiplayer maps and 21 fresh skins to dress yourself in.

On top of that, and perhaps most importantly, there are ten new unlockable Achievements to work towards, eventually adding 250 Gamerpoints to your tally.

Stranglehold is a beautifully destructive little shooter powered by the cinematic vision of John Woo and voiced by the familiar vocals of Chow Yun Fat. Despite being a little short, there is plenty balletic slow-motion gun slinging to enjoy, plus you can slide down banisters and shoot watermelons.

Stride convincingly over to our Stranglehold review for a solid thumbs up.

n a turn-based RPG, it's easy to zone out and ignore the combat on screen as you cycle through the menus. The Aim Ring System does its part to keep you involved, while still keeping the battle system simple and turn based. It also gives you a reason to take part in the item creation system in which you can assemble new rings to suit your needs.

Lost Odyssey is due out in February, so it shouldn't be long before we have a final translated copy in the offices. Until then, enjoy the new screenshots in the gallery.

INTERVIEW: Epic Power Struggle

As Unreal Tournament III gets underway, Epicʼs Mark Rein talks life atop the ladder.

Gears Of War on PC has caused ructions among 360 fans with its exclusive content. Whatʼs the deal? Is it going to appear? Or is it too demanding?

Canʼt we all just get along? [Laughs] The PC version is built on a newer version of the engine, and to go back and do loads of patches to a game thatʼs out there and is stable – we risk breaking a lot of content. So we made a conscious decision. And weʼve given the 360 guys some pretty neat stuff for free – certainly more than most other games do. More than any game Iʼm aware of. If you went back to bring the 360 version up to the engine build the PC versionʼs running, it would mean sacrificing the work weʼre doing now to bring UTIII to 360.
