Burnout gets Euro date

EA has told Eurogamer that Burnout Paradise will be out here on 25th January.

It follows word from late October that it will be on US shelves on 22nd, complimented by demos for PS3 and 360 sometime this month.

Burnout Paradise is the most ambitious outing in the series so far, presenting car crashers with an open world to zoom around, triggering races by stopping at streetlights or jumping through hoops and that sort of lark. The emphasis being on doing things at your pace and not in a rigid order. Free your minds.

You will also be able to invite your friends over to your world and have an automobile pyjama party, without any loitering in lobbies and all that palaver - they appear on your roads and drive around until you fancy a race.

Very promising is the general consensus, so pop over to our Burnout Paradise gamepage and crash yourself in information.

Stranglehold map pack soon

Midway has announced that both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners can expect to download a map pack for John Woo's Stranglehold in the near future. Providing they bought Stranglehold and want some downloadable content in any event.

The map pack, announced overnight, "will be available soon in North America via the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live" in Midway's words. A European release in a similar timeframe seems very likely. We tried to get hold of Midway UK this morning to confirm that, and see whether it's coming to PC as well, but we've yet to hear back.

The pack consists of ten new multiplayer maps (including "Kowloon Market", "Wong's Estate Grounds" and "Rooftops of Chicago") and 21 new multiplayer character skins. Xbox 360 owners can also look forward to ten new unlockable Achievements worth a total of 250 gamerpoints.

Stranglehold is an Unreal Engine 3-powered third-person shooter that follows in the narrative footsteps of classic John Woo/Chow Yun Fat action film Hard Boiled, and sees Inspector Tequila diving, sliding and generally exploding his slow-motion way around detail-packed environments in an attempt to either solve whatever crime it is he's up against or kill everyone involved - whichever comes first.

We really liked it, with Kristan remarking that it "might well be the most direct, straightforward action game you've played in years". The multiplayer wasn't one of his favourite elements, but perhaps that will change with the advent of the new map pack. Find out when it appears on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network soon.

Bungie focusing on Xbox 360

Bungie Studios currently has "no plans" to work on any platforms besides Xbox 360, two of the developer's top men told Eurogamer readers in a LiveText interview this afternoon.

"We have no plans to work on any other platforms beyond 360 at this time," writing lead Frank O'Connor responded to a question about whether Bungie's newfound independence might give rise to non-360 projects.

"Microsoft have been good friends to us," added Jonty Barnes, production director. "You can see the strength of our relationship in Halo. We're really focused on continuing our collaboration in making the best games we can, and that right now is on 360."

The two developers covered a wide range of topics during their nearly 90 minutes fielding Eurogamer readers' questions, providing insight into a number of areas and revealing, among other things, the following:

* Stand Off from the new Halo 3 map pack has "at least two Easter Eggs", "each one more horrifying than the last".

* There's nothing new to report on the Halo film at the moment, with its "pause button firmly pressed".

* They are not working on anything Marathon-related right now, but "it's not outwith the bounds of reason that we could revisit it one day".

* When asked about possibly reselling technology, Barnes said the company was "not interested in focusing on how we can generate the most revenue".

* When a reader countered with a question about the map pack price, Frank explained that Microsoft sets the price once Bungie has billed them for how much it cost to develop.

* Asked about the possibility of multiplayer bots as DLC, Barnes said: "I cannot comment on the plans for Halo 3 at this time outside of the snippets of DLC announcements we've already made."

* Bungie's involvement in Ensemble Studios' Halo Wars game has been largely in advising on story and universe.

* Bungie has no current plans to produce a game for Xbox Live Arcade.

* Frank "sucks at all music games".

* Both men would rather be invisible than have lasers for eyes.

Look out for another LiveText interview soon, and check out the full transcript for more.
