Xbox 360 Virtua Fighter 5 Dated: October 30

 

It's a little bit later than the summer release they originally anticipated, but Virtua Fighter 5 for Xbox 360 has been confirmed for an October 30 release date in the US.

 

Then again, isn't the delay totally justified when you consider that they're adding online play? And leaderboards? And the ability to carry your custom characters to your friend's place on a memory card?

 

I guess that all depends on how much those improvements will affect your Virtua Fighter experience. Seems like a solid upgrade over the original version -- wonder if they'll end up porting it back to PS3?

Microsoft bringing home Comic-Con

 

Microsoft announced today that it would be extending its "Bringing It Home" promotional campaign to Comic-Con 2007. The publishing giant's as-if-you-were-there content updates for Xbox 360 owners have become a regular occurrence in the past few years. Microsoft debuted the initiative during 2006's Electronic Entertainment Expo, and has since revisited the campaign during the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, as well as at this year's E3 Media and Business Summit.

 

Between July 26 and August 7, Xbox Live will receive a number of Comic-Con related updates. Xbox 360 owners will have access to game trailers, show panels, movie and TV trailers, celebrity interviews, show exclusives, and dashboard themes. Of these themes, gamers will have access to several that are based on work from DC Comics as well as Legendary Pictures' film adaptation of Frank Miller's 300.

 

Also, event sponsor Warner Bros. will be holding a special screening of 300 at Petco Park--home of the San Diego Padres--for 6,000 lucky Comic-Con attendees. Those invited to attend will have a chance at winning one of 10 limited-edition 300-themed Xbox 360 Elite consoles.

 

As in year's past, Comic-Con 2007 will showcase work based on comics, animation, games, TV, and film. The event runs from July 26-29, and takes place at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California. GameSpot will be on hand to cover the event, so expect to see more updates in the coming days.

Xbox 360 HD DVD Player Moves to $179, Adds Five Free HD DVDs

 

Xbox LIVE to promote HD DVD versions of "300" and "Heroes: Season 1."

 

SAN DIEGO — July 26, 2007 — Today at Comic-Con International 2007, Microsoft Corp. announced it will lower the price of the popular Xbox 360™ HD DVD Player from $199 to $179 ERP (United States only) starting Aug. 1, 2007, and will add five free HD DVD movies for anyone purchasing an Xbox 360 HD DVD Player between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30. In addition, Microsoft further solidified the Xbox 360 as the ultimate high-definition (HD) entertainment platform, with key announcements around the HD DVD launches of “300” from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group and “Heroes: Season 1” from Universal Studios.

 

To promote the HD DVD versions of “300” and “Heroes: Season 1,” Microsoft unveiled exclusive content for Xbox LIVE® Marketplace. Xbox LIVE will offer “300” on demand in HD starting Aug. 14, and is working with Warner Bros. at Comic-Con on a Bringing It Home campaign featuring “300” and other Warner Bros. properties. In advance of the street date for the “Heroes: Season 1” HD DVD boxed set, Xbox LIVE members will be able to download for free the showʼs pilot episode in high definition for a limited time. Members will also be able to download trailers, teaser scenes and other promotional materials highlighting the “Heroes: Season 1” boxed set on HD DVD.
