Gears of War patch tomorrow

Gears of War's next patch is set to go live tomorrow, 14th June, and introduce eight new Achievements for the "Annex" game-type and "Hidden Fronts" multiplayer map pack, along with adjustments to the "Roadie Run" controls that stop players snagging on walls. According to Microsoft's PRs, "The title update will also help squash multiplayer exploits and provide general housekeeping."

All of which breathless single-paragraph cramming leaves us with little to add other than that the news came to us not via the usual channel of Epic's Mark Rein posting on the official forum, but through a brief press release issued by Microsoft UK's external PR chums, who would also want us to add that while Annex is free, the Hidden Fronts pack currently goes for 800 Microsoft points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.30), and will be made available for free to people put off by that on 3rd September.

So there. For more on the Roadie Run tweak, check out Epic's Rod Fergusson explaining things, and for more - oh so much more - on Gears of War, check out our Gears of War Xbox 360 gamepage. Funny it's only on Xbox 360. I wonder if they'll do a PC one? Someone should look into that.

Soulcalibur IV Will Remain at 60FPS

1080P support is under consideration.

The latest issue of Famitu brings us a few new details about Soulcalibur IV before EGM drops the real bomb next month. For the hardcore: the game will run at 60FPS and they're currently considering supporting 1080P resolutions -- but it isn't confirmed.

Additionally, the story of Soul Calibur IV will be a continuation of Soul Calibur III, with a twist. Once, a man became a hero using the sword Soul Edge, but his son stole it from him for evil and ends up dying during battle. The hero (father) out of grief, decides to make Soul Calibur. This aspect will apparently will become a key to Soulcalibur 4's story.

AU Live Anywhere's 360 vs. PC Begins

Plus: Shadowrun gets a bargain price in Oz.

From today onwards, gamers in Australia and New Zealand can battle it out against each other on their gaming platform of choice - Xbox 360 or PC. The first game to take advantage of Microsoft's cross-platform play is Shadowrun, and the good news is, it's coming at a bargain price, too.

While our unfortunate US counterparts might have to pay full price, Shadowrun is hitting Australian shelves for the sugary price of AU$69.95 for either the 360 or PC version. This comes off the back of Halo 2 for Windows Vista, which is also available now for AU$69.95.

Of course, only part of the new service is free. Like Xbox Live's pricing system, Silver Membership is free, but for full access, you'll need to sign up for Gold Membership.

According to Microsoft, current members of Xbox Live automatically receive the functionality of Games for Windows - Live, using the same gamertag and friends list, at no additional cost. In addition, Games for Windows Live introduces the best of the Xbox online service functionality to please PC gamers, such as integrated in-game multiplayer voice chat, Achievements and dedicated server support, as part of the complimentary Silver membership.

Gold memberships will deliver the premium online network experience which adds benefits such as multiplayer achievements, matchmaking according to skill, reputation and gamerzone, as well as cross-platform gameplay.

Shadowrun connects Windows Vista gamers with Xbox 360 players in cross-platform matches through a single service. The game supports up to 16 players in a blend of magic and heavy-arms combat.

Keep your peepers glued to IGN AU for more Live Anywhere goodness as it unfurls.
