The Halo 3 Xbox 360 Case Mod

 

 

While this isn't exactly my style, I do appreciate the incredible paint job on this Premium 360 done by artist, Jeremiah Thiring. Jeremy's other work on PC cases was recently featured on the covers of several PC related magazines. Now he's expanding into custom painted video game systems and this is one of his first.

 

This one of a kind "MASTER CHIEF" Xbox 360 is completely hand airbrushed! (No photo Prints or Stickers Here Folks!) Not only does this 360 Depict Detailed Master Chief and engraved water filled "3" murals, It has a realistic stone effect and water drops that look like you could wipe them off!! As with all of our systems... Both of the wireless controllers have also been wrapped in 360 degrees of matching art!

 

Engraved water filled murals? Damn! The master chief portrait is impeccable, but I'm not sold on all those water droplets. They're extremely well done, but on the controllers it just looks kind of crusty, but that could just be the photograph.

Developed by Zeropoint Software, Interstellar Marines is a sure to be AAA, FPS, action and adventure title with an original, unpredictable, Sci-Fi storyline featuring single and co-op gameplay, with heavy focus on realism.

 

Interstellar Marines will utilize the Unreal Engine, so you will see certain graphical advances such as normal mapping, global lighting, and AI Implant which is an incredible tool for scripting advanced AI.

 

The storyline follows an Interstellar Marine soldier of the 22nd century. Xbox 360 120GB HDD advertising appears

 

It looks like promotional materials for the new "rumored" Xbox 360 120GB hard drive are surfacing. We received this picture from fanboy reader Ralph, who says it's a shot of Gamestop's promotional poster for the much rumored 120GB hard drive. Yes, we know it's a tiny picture, but Ralph says it's so small because it was sent to him via his trendy little Blackberry. Stupid Blackberrys and their small screens. So, is this confirmation of a new 120GB hard drive and possibly the Elite 360? Not exactly, but it makes for great speculation goodness. And we all know how much we love our rumors and spec.

Microsoft: There Were XBL Security Issues Last Week

Major Nelson steps back, admits that Microsoft has problem.

 

What a twisted tale we weave. It all started in the middle of last week when Microsoft told C|Net they were beginning an investigation into possible fraud and account theft on Xbox Live. Scary stuff, but not to worry; the very next day, popular Microsoft blogger Major Nelson posted there was, in fact, no security compromise. Not so fast, though.

 

Late Friday, Nelson posted another security update, this one with a very different story to tell. Apparently some wires crossed before, and he was a little off the mark.

"Earlier this week when I first heard about the "Xbox Live network hacked" story, I checked with the people on our end, and then posted about it. As originally posted, Xbox Live has not been hacked. That is still true. A security researcher, Kevin Finisterre, discovered not a hack, but the fact that some accounts may have been compromised as a result of 'social engineering', also known as 'pre-texting', through our support center. Kevin gave me a call directly and once I realized what he was talking about (he sent me some painful-to-listen-to audio files) I confirmed that the team is fully aware of this issue. They are examining the policies, and have already begun re-training the support staff and partners to help make sure we reduce this type of social engineering attack.

 

There's no other way to say it; this situation shouldn't have happened. Our customers deserve better."

 

For those too lazy to check the Wikipedia link that the good Major so handily provided, pre-texting is when somebody other than the account holder calls customer support with enough info. about the account to trick the C.S. rep into thinking they're legit. Once this is accomplished, they can fish out the information they need -- usually a password to hijack the desired account. What does this revelation and admittance from Microsoft mean for gamers? As Major says, they are re-training the phone staff and looking at further ways to prevent the issue. That probably means calling in to deal with customer support about the nitty gritty of your Xbox Live account will become both much more secure and potentially a bit more time-consuming and annoying. That may be the necessary price for full security, although as long as we're dealing with humans (and information that can slip into others' hands), there's sure to be the occasional case of successful pre-texting.

Microsoft Accidentally Confirms Xbox 360 Elite

 

In the XNA Game Studio Express forums at MSDN, an XNA Framework Developer has accidentally confirmed the existance of the unannounced Elite Edition of the Xbox 360.

 

In a forum post that asks "Will the HDMI output on the revised 360 require any code changes ", Microsoft software enginner Shawn Hargreaves responded that "no changes required" for existing XNA code. This pretty much confirms the new Xbox 360 model that is rumored to come with a built-in HDMI port.

 

Xbox 360 Elite to be Announced on Wednesday?

 

Dean Takahashi, the author of 2001ʼs “Opening the Xbox” and 2006ʼs “The Xbox 360 Uncloaked”, has confirmed in his San Jose Mercury Newsʼ blog the announcement of the Xbox 360 Elite.

 

"Itʼs true that Microsoft is preparing to announce the Xbox 360 Elite, a version of the game console with black plastic and advanced features." stated Takahashi in his a+e blog. "Several sources confirmed Microsoft plans to add this box to its product line."

 

Meanwhile, in the other side of the Pacific Ocean, Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Microsoft Australia will make on Wednesday a "major announcement" to coincide with the first birthday of the Xbox 360 in the Land Downunder.

 

 

While unconfirmed, all signs suggest Microsoft will introduce a revamped "Elite" version of the games console, with new features such as a larger hard disk drive and a built-in HDMI connector.

 

The announcement, to be made within a week of the Australian debut of the PlayStation 3, comes as Microsoft faces the daunting task of keeping the Xbox 360 fresh in the face of renewed competition from Sony and Nintendo.

By now, the Xbox 360 Elite Edition (codename: Zephyr) is one of the worst kept secrets ever.
