Mass Effect Out in June?

 

Bioware gave its biggest hint yet today on the release date of Mass Effect when it told IGN the extraordinary-looking RPG wouldn't show up at this year's E3.

 

"That event is in July, right?" asked Dr. Ray Muzyka. "Well, Mass Effect won't appear at this year's E3."

 

Since Bioware is in the polishing, tweaking and balancing stages of Mass Effect, it's likely the original RPG will ship before the event, in either June or early July.

 

With big-name titles such as Halo 3 speculated for release in November, and Grand Theft Auto IV slated for October, publishers are looking to give their own games enough retail breathing room to take off without being overshadowed. Microsoft also announced yesterday that Blue Dragon will ship in August, another game that Microsoft will want to give room to.

 

Look forward to IGN's video interview with Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk later this week.

Νομίζω είμαι για να τσιμπάω κι εγώ το τιμονάκι σιγά σιγά. Όχι τίποτα άλλο, μη το ψάχνω και δε το βρίσκω όταν θα χρειαστεί. Και το TDU στο Hardcore μου φαίνεται καλή φάση για λίγη προπόνηση.

GDC 2007: Peter Jackson Turns Halo Episodic

You may finish the battle with Master Chief in Halo 3, but the war will continue for many more years.

According to game industry website, Gamasutra, Microsoft big-wigs Chris Satchell and Shane Kim conducted an impromptu Q & A session at a special GDC breakfast held by Microsoft this morning. During this Q & A, the executives spoke about the future of the halo franchise and addressed many facets of Mircosoft's approach to handling the Xbox 360 further down the line.

 

The most diehard Xbox fans out there are likely to remember that during Microsoft's X06 conference, Bungie Studios announced two collaborations with popular New Zealander, Peter Jackson. Since then, information has been on lockdown, prompting some to pre-emptively mourn the death of this project.

 

This morning's most palpably huge development was Kim's confirmation that both previously announced projects are still in development, and that they would both be episodic gaming series. While both projects are currently in the design phase, the one that is furthest along is set inside the Halo universe, but will not be any sort of direct sequel to any of the previous Halo games.

 

Shane Kim also addressed complaints lobbied against Microsoft regarding hardware malfunctions with Xbox 360 systems. In a down-to-earth fashion, Kim stated, "It's unfortunate that people have had problems with their Xbox 360." Kim went on to acknowledge that Microsoft could use "some improvement on both sides of the situation."

GDC 07: Lost Odyssey Updated Impressions

We get a taste of the darker side of Mistwalker with a demo of its upcoming action role-playing game, Lost Odyssey.

 

Later, we watched a cutscene complete with English voice-overs. In the scene, a man and a woman were standing in a secluded alleyway having a discussion. They were apparently off on a mission of some sort but were waiting for another person to show up. Soon, a very drunk man appeared from a door nearby, accompanied by three blond and scantily clad women. The man joked around about being needed for an important mission and eventually after some coercion was convinced to take leave of his female companions. The whole scene was quite funny, and the English voice acting sounded good. Apparently, although the game has a gloomy, somber look, it will have its share of humor as well.

 

The final scene we saw was of a submarine entering an underwater structure. Apparently, there are several sequences in the game where you'll control a submarine and cruise the depths of the ocean. You'll have complete control of the vessel, but what you'll actually do with it remains to be seen. The video we watched was a short render of a sub spiraling up an iridescent column that looked like something from a science-fiction movie.
