Major Nelson has once again released the Xbox Live charts, this time for the week beginning the 4th of December. Marcus keeps his foot firmly planted on the neck of the Master Chief, with Gears of War remaining at the top of the charts. Taking out second spot is IGN AU's favourite online shooter, Call of Duty 3, while IGN US's pick for best terrorist-fest, Rainbow Six Vegas, resides in third place. With the hype machine for Lost Planet shifting into overdrive, it's no surprise to see its recently released online demo appearing in fourth place. Anyway, enough commentary about the charts from us - here are the full lists for you to debate amongst drunken friends. Please note that these charts are based on global unique users. xrest Δημοσ. 11 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 11 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 Ubisoft reveals the next Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. When Ubisoft shifted the Ghost Recon naming conventions from numbers to words (from Ghost Recon 2 to Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter), it was easy to assume the company was just moving into territory shared by Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six and other Ubisoft franchises -- those that hate numbers. But as today's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 announcement proves, that was only a temporary shift. Call it a spin-off series or call it Ubisoft wanting to cash in on GRAW's success, but the game everyone loved earlier this year is coming back for a second round. Ubisoft touts new locations (battle in the U.S.), "vastly" improved artificial intelligence (your allies will give you vocal tips), an improved Cross-Com system (which now allows you to zoom-in on what your allies see with the picture-in-picture function), and more combat support options (call air strikes, use a MULE for cover and assistance, heal team members) as new features, which definitely makes it sound like the game will be made for those who want more of the first game than a radically different experience. According to the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, GRAW 2 is scheduled to ship in March (Ubisoft's press release just says "Spring 2007"), which will make it a one year turnaround from this year's game. Given the similar graphics engine on 360 and PC, that's not a huge surprise, but with PS3 and PSP versions on the way as well, the follow-up should be a game that reaches a different audience this time around.
xrest Δημοσ. 11 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 11 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Why was the Xbox 360 chosen as the exclusive platform for Lost Planet? The 360 is very easy to develop for, and they have a definite focus on online play. Since Capcom doesnʼt have a large amount of experience in the online arena, this ease of development, along with the support we received from Microsoft, made making Lost Planet a 360 exclusive an easy decision to make. It also made sense because the Xbox 360 is a very popular platform in the US. http://www.siliconera.com/index.php/...-jun-takeuchi/

xrest Δημοσ. 11 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 11 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Xbox Live Arcade Challenge Microsoft has announced the "Xbox Live Arcade Challenge", set to run between 17th and 30th December, which will see players competing in Lumines Live! and Small Arms for big-screen televisions, Xbox hardware and other prizes. The Lumines Live! challenge will run from 17th to 23rd December and see players competing in the Time Attack 60-second mode, with the top 105 people on the leaderboard as of 12:01am GMT on 24th December. Perfect Christmas present! Small Arms will also produce 105 winners based on ranked match activity between 24th and 30th December, with the leaderboards reset beforehand. A minute past midnight on the 31st, the winners for that will be drawn. Happy New Year! Advertisement They're not bad prizes, either, with a 42" Hitatchi UltraVision Plasma TV for the overall winner of each tournament, and four runners-up getting bundles of HD-DVD player, wireless steering wheel and wireless headset. The 100 after that, in each case, will get 500 Microsoft points. In order to take part, it looks like you'll have to pre-register over at Xboxlivetournament.com, which doesn't appear to be quite ready to accept your sign-up at the time of writing - but don't worry, you can always read the US rules and FAQ in the meantime. And doubly don't worry, because Microsoft UK assures us that it will be open to European gamers as well.
