Rebel21 Δημοσ. 9 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 9 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Tony Hawk's Project 8 review http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/744/744736p1.html 7.0 Presentation A decent number of pros make appearances and the style is slick as usual, but the lack of Create-A-Trick and Create-A-Graphic are a big disappointment. 8.0 Graphics Great textures, motion-captured tricks and a large world without pop-in. The framerate suffers on a fairly consistent basis and some of the prosʼ faces are a work of horror, but itʼs still pretty. 7.5 Sound A hot list of songs and some solid voice acting are a plus. The almost total lack of ambient sound sterilizes some areas. 8.0 Gameplay Still fun, still addictive. Though the level design is lacking, itʼs hard to deny the brilliance of the new Nail the Trick feature. 8.0 Lasting Appeal Tons of challenges to master, a ridiculous number of gaps to find and some fun online modes should have you plugging away for a while. 7.8 Good OVERALL (out of 10 / not an average)
Daredevil Δημοσ. 9 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 9 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Joystiq video: Xbox 360 Wireless Headset review http://videogames.netscape.com/story/2006/11/09/joystiq-review-the-xbox-360-wireless-headset We picked up one of Microsoft's Xbox 360 Wireless Headsets and put it through the paces in a video review. It's been fantastic so far, especially when we've been fragging people in Gears of War. It's light enough that you hardly feel it (bringing you that much closer to the game! -- says Sony), and look ma, no wires! Seriously, we've tried to walk away to the phone, kitchen or bathroom with our old headset still connected more times than we can count. It's a little disconcerting when your controller goes skittering across the floor after you, tethered by the headset cord. Anyhow, after a couple of days with this thing we still love it. A couple of minor complaints are that it uses a wall charger instead of a handy USB cable. With the Xbox 360 having so many ports, it would have been nice to have the option to charge it through the console. Also, the section of the headset that holds the earpiece on is slightly delicate. You have to be very careful when you change them out because there is some pushing and pulling involved. Other than that, it's a solid little sucker that you'll enjoy adding to your smacktalk arsenal. It's a bit steep at $59.99, so stick it on a Christmas wishlist. Amazon has it for $49.99, which is the lowest price we've seen. It's worth trying to find a sale, even if it does make you look a little bit like Lando Calrissian's assistant dude.

Speaking in a panel discussion at the Montréal Games Summit, Tascan said, "What is Gears of War? I mean Gears of War brings nothing in terms of innovation to the shooter... Like, zero. "Only two very brave UK-based journalists said, 'You know what, Gears of War is a great game but it's like what Quake was a few years ago. "Why are people loving it so much? It's like added production value, incredible cutscenes and the best ever graphics ever. I'm sure it's going to be a great success, I can't wait to play it, but let's face that graphics are still number one," Tascan continued. He then used the comparison of a nice looking girl you might see in a bar and go up and talk to, "And if she's smart enough, that's the gameplay. "I'm not talking about my tastes, I'm just saying, when you go to metacritic and you see a 96 for Gears of War, then you read the critics saying, 'Okay, storyline - there's none, gameplay is not innovative...' Then I say, why did they give this 96? They were blown away by the high quality of the graphics... Myself, I prefer something more creative," Tascan concluded. http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=69805
xrest Δημοσ. 10 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 10 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Oblivion: Knights of the Nine Pricing Details A firm release date is set. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a contender for Game of the Year. Just as our play time with the massive RPG was winding down, Bethesda Softworks announced new content to revive our interest. The downloadable content, Knights of the Nine, gives Oblivion players the chance to explore a brand new guild. The PC retail release of Knights of the Nine costs $19.99, but includes all previous downloadable content. Those who want just the Knights of the Nine can download it online for $9.99. There is no retail version of Knights for 360. It is, instead, only offered through the Xbox Live Marketplace at a cost of 800 gamer points. Knights of the Nine debuts on 360 on November 21 and is available for PC download December 4. The PS3 version of Oblivion, which includes the Knights of the Nine content, has slipped from its original December release. It is now expected in the first quarter of 2007. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/745/745042p1.html

xrest Δημοσ. 10 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 10 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Viva Pinata Spills Candy All Over Retailers Beware, rabid pinatas may now beat you until tasty candy spills out. - Microsoft announced today that Viva Pinata was shipped to stores on November 9. Developed by Rare and Microsoft Game Studios, Viva Pinata lets players capture and tame pinata animals as they roam around the cleverly named Pinata Island. "With the arrival of 'Viva Pinata,' we're opening up Xbox 360 to new audiences and inviting more people to jump into the fun," said Shane Kim, of Microsoft Game Studios. "This is a game that will have broad appeal. Families will play it together. Kids will play it by day, and, I'm willing to bet, their parents will play it at night. Even for the seasoned gamer, 'Viva Pinata' will be a great escape, and they'll see it as a guilty pleasure." This concept is not merely confined to the world of the video game, however. Viva Pinata was ingeniously designed as a crossover franchise tied to a CG animated series of the same name. Produced by 4Kids Entertainment and airing on Fox on Saturday mornings, Viva Pinata deals with the wacky hijinks of a group of living pinatas. Of course, no crossover series would be complete without a massive amount of merchandising tie-ins and Viva Pinata is certainly no exception to this rule. Playmates Toys and American Greetings are already planning on releasing a whole slew of Viva Pinata branded products throughout 2007. Parents out there would be well advised to hide their credit cards. Viva Pinata is rated "E" for Everyone and is available exclusively on Xbox 360 for a suggested price of $49.99. A two-disc special edition is also available for a limited time, and will feature demos of Frogger, Cloning Clyde, Time Pilot, Marble Blast, and LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy as well as a full length episode of the Viva Pinata TV series. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/745/745103p1.html

Spike TV's fourth annual Video Game Awards is getting some much-needed energy. Sam "Snakes on a Plane" Jackson is set to return as host of the awards show which airs December 13 at 10 PM. The awards, taped on December 8 and then edited for length and boring speeches, is being held at the University of Southern California's Galen Center in Los Angeles. Voting for the show begins today at http://www.vga2006.spiketv.com. Fans can vote in 27 different categories, including Most Addictive Game, Game of the Year and Cyber Vixen of the Year (ohhh Princess Peach!). Voting closes on Thursday, December 7. Absent from this year's list of awards is the choice for Best Videogame Website. It's too bad, because we had a killer speech prepared. "IGN would like to thank the Academy for this distinguished honor. And, of course, we would like to thank all the fans who voted. Without you we wouldn't be here." Then the IGN editors would collectively poop on the crowd. We'll have to settle for Sam Jackson making stellar cracks at the expense of the gathered celebrities. xrest Δημοσ. 10 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 10 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Too Human, Crackdown Before June 2007 Forza 2, Shadowrun also coming within this timeline. Gears of War may be living up to the hype, but Microsoft had originally pimped a much more prolific Christmas lineup to fend off the PlayStation 3 and Wii promotional onslaught. Crackdown, Too Human and Forza Motorsport 2 slipped through the cracks into vague spring release dates, and while Peter Moore spoke to MTV about the video marketplace for Xbox 360, he clarified the situation -- sort of. Moore says all three games, in addition to Shadowrun, will arrive on Xbox 360 before June 2007. We haven't seen Too Human since its controversial E3 showing, while the others were shown as recently as September's X06 event. We'd expect Microsoft will hold an early 2007 event for a complete update. Additionally, work moves forward on the Peter Jackson and Bungie Studios collaboration into the Haloverse, though nothing's been officially detailed. Moore simply stated a team at Bungie had visited Jackson's studio in New Zealand and another was shipping out "in a couple of weeks." Moore also refused to confirm if Jackson's initial effort would arrive before the end of 2007. With both Halo 3 and Halo Wars arriving next year, however, that doesn't seem too likely. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3155133
