Blue Dragon Achievements Unlocked

Doesn't mean much if you can't read Japanese, though.

 

Emergence Day means most of the gaming world's disappearing from the Internet in favor of battling the Locust threat on Sera. But for the few sticking with us (and not calling in sick), here's a nifty update on Blue Dragon, in the form of the game's numerous achievements, courtesy of Achieve360Points and translated by the, um, eccentric NeoGAF forums.

 

They're pretty neat, too. No "beat the final boss for 200 points" achievements; many of them require you to delve deeper and discover secret items a little off the beaten path.

Survey says: loads of juicy rumors

 

Certain Xbox Live subscribers got an e-mail today asking for their participation in this super long survey earlier today. Normally surveys like these are boring, thereʼs a reason certain companies pay you to fill them in, but this one was rather interesting. It asked participants how interested they were in certain first party accessories and Live features. Among the subjects was a web browser, a joystick specifically designed for Xbox Live Arcade games, a mini-keyboard you can plug into your controller for text messaging and a black ʽpremiumʼ controller. How interested would you be in buying an Xbox 360 branded mini-keyboard plug-in device for your controller to make text messaging and chat easier, assuming it would cost between $19-$29?

Paying per song (~$0.99/song) to download music to your Xbox 360 hard drive from a music service. You would be able to use this service while playing a game.

Paying a subscription per month (~$14.99/mo) to stream any and all music to your Xbox360 from a library of over 2 Million songs. You would be able to use this service while playing a game.

Paying per video (~$19.99/movie, $1.99/TV show) to download standard definition full movies and TV shows to your Xbox360 hard drive

Microsoft confirms Xbox 360 shipment forecasts

 

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) on Tuesday confirmed its forecast for shipments of Xbox 360 video game consoles and said its ability to convert occasional online gamers into console users would be key to growth.

Peter Moore, vice president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division which oversees Xbox, confirmed the company's expectation that Xbox 360 shipments would reach 10 million by the end of 2006, and 13 million to 15 million by the end of its 2007 fiscal year.

 

The software company's fiscal year ends June 30, 2007.

 

In October, the company said it had shipped 6 million consoles worldwide.

 

"The real growth here is getting to that moderate gamer. We need to bring them to the box," Moore said at a BMO Capital Markets video game conference in New York.

 

He was referring to users who occasionally play video games online but have yet to spend at least $400 to buy the next-generation Xbox console for their homes.

 

Microsoft believes its head start in connecting video game consoles to online gaming through its Xbox Live service will prove an advantage in tapping future growth, Moore said.

 

Moore cited data from tracking firm DFC Intelligence that forecast the number of video game consoles connected to the Internet to quadruple by 2010.

 

Console-connected online gaming services are opening up new revenue streams, such as advertising and additional content sales for device makers and video game publishers.

 

Microsoft has 4 million Xbox Live subscribers, who can download game demos, chat and compete with friends, buy new maps and weapons and, soon, download TV shows and movies.

PlayStation 2 owners use its online service. The company is revamping the service, called PlayStation Network, for its PlayStation 3 console that makes its U.S. debut on November 17.

Novadrome Racing to XBLA

Microsoft's online gaming service is getting fuel-injected for the holidays.

 

Today Buena Vista Games announced Novadrome, a vehicular combat game set in a science fiction universe and headed for the Xbox Live Arcade this holiday season. Developed by Stainless Games, makers of Crystal Quest on XBLA and Carmaggedon 2, Novadrome puts gamers behind the wheel of an armed, buggy-style gas guzzler to face off in arena battles on a far away world. The game includes three single-player options and a multiplayer mode that Stainless Games is hoping to make a frantic experience.

 

"Immensely fun to play, easily available and affordable, Novadrome captures what gamers are looking for in an Xbox Live Arcade title," said Michael Ryder, Senior VP of Global Production, Buena Vista Games. "Offline, players can battle enemies or explore sprawling arenas filled with obstacles and power-ups. After learning the basics, they can then vie for ultimate bragging rights by engaging friends and other Xbox Live Arcade combatants through the highly customizable online multiplayer mode."

 

"We took our renowned experience of making intense vehicle combat games and put it into an extremely addictive game -- Novadrome," said Patrick Buckland, managing director of Stainless Games. "Novadrome will have Xbox Live Arcade gamers speeding around large sci-fi environments in an effort to destroy enemy vehicles."

 

Players will have 24 vehicles to choose from and 15 arenas in which to deal out their death. The leaderboards will track the drivers causing the most destruction.
