Bethesda goes Rogue

Bethesda Softworks is to publish a new Unreal Engine 3 powered first-person shooter called Rogue Warrior on Xbox 360, according to Official Xbox 360 Magazine. (Update: an announcement today confirmed that the game will also be released on PC and PS3.)

Due out next year, it's a multiplayer-focused anti-terrorism game based on books by Richard Marcinko, in development at Zombie Studios, who have worked on things like Shadow Ops in the past.

Rogue Warrior's online modes sound quite interesting - including one that will generate a map based on what the two teams decide beforehand, the idea being that you'll only know the territory you start off in.

Xbox Live will obviously feature, with support for four players in co-op mode, and up to 24 in other multiplayer modes.

Expect more details to emerge in the near future.

Just Cause 2 dropping in?

Source: Worthplaying.com citing an Avalanche Studios interview in Swedish game mag Kong.

What we heard: Though not a raging success in North America, Just Cause has been fairing quite well in retail in the UK, where it stayed on the region's top 10 all-formats list for four weeks after its September release. This success was apparently enough of a sign to begin work on a sequel, according to Internet reports.

Gaming site Worthplaying.com cites an article in Swedish gaming magazine Kong, in which Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios (also from Sweden) apparently cops to a sequel's development. Worthplaying says Avalanche CEO Christofer Sundberg reveals that his studio is already working on a sequel and that the game will abandon the Far Cry-esque island paradise for a "VERY large city environment" (caps in original).

The game will also reportedly go multiformat again but this time will focus on the next generation--specifically the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Though taking translations from foreign publications often ends up in a game of "telephone," this bit of scuttlebutt is likely legitimate. Avalanche has a grand total of one game under its belt (Just Cause), and given the game's success and potential, it seems like a smart business move to pump out another one of Rico Rodriguez's adventures.

The official story: Eidos rep--"We don't have any comment on this as of yet."

Bogus or not bogus?: Officially? Bogus. Unofficially? Not Bogus.

Datel Xport360 - new Xbox360 HDD Connectivity Product

Datel released 'Xport360' a new HDD connectivity product for the Xbox360. This product hasn't been announced by Datel yet, but FoxRacR17 found it at BestBuy and posted info and pictures of it on our forums.

The product is a bit similar to Datel's XSATA except that you don't need to plug this adapter in your Xbox 360 console. Basicly it's standalone SATA-to-USB adapter with an Xbox360 HDD Connectivity Kit build-in ... just plug in the Xbox 360 HD on it and you have 2 USB plugs (UPDATE: one USB to access the Xbox360 harddrive and the 2nd is to access an xbox/xbox360 memory card).

A special port on the front of the device will allow you to connect Xbox360 memory cards and the package also comes with an Xbox1 memory card adapter, which will allow you to easily put Xbox1 saves on your PC or on your Xbox360 HD.

It also looks like Datel has their own Xbox360 HDD navigation (read, write) tool now, instead of relying on 360gamesaves' Xplorer360(info).

Product Features:

* Transfer data between your Xbox 360 hard drive, memory cards and PC quickly and easily

* Bonus Xbox memory card adapter lets you transfer original Xbox game saves to your Xbox 360

* High-speed USB 2.0 transfer rate won't keep you waiting for data to transfer

* Docking station plugs into your PC for fast, flawless data transfers

* Simply drag and drop files while you're connected to your PC

Need for Speed Carbon Review

8.0 Presentation

More trippy-dippy FMV-treated cutscenes and sadly, more cutscenes filled with geekier FMV actors. A great map system, good GPS, and good progression structure.

8.5 Graphics

EA returns the series to the flashy streets of the city, like in Underground 1 and 2. Great looking cars made better by Autosculpt.

9.0 Sound

Great sound effects nicely split in 5.1 plus the least obnoxious EA TRAX songs ever.

8.0 Gameplay

The muscle cars are the biggest change the series has seen in years. The canyon duels are OK (kinda easy actually). The non-career mode mini-races are startlingly deep.

8.5 Lasting Appeal

Mucho replay value: There is the meaty 12-hour career mode, the four-person co-op mode (split-screen or online), and the eight-person cop races, which are great (if you have a good connection).

8.2 OVERALL

Impressive

(out of 10 / not an average)

Viva Piñata Hands-on

Viva Piñata is definitely a quirky game, but it is oddly enjoyable even for us as adults. Managing the garden and attracting new piñatas is fun, especially as you name them, watch how they take to your environment and discover each species' little traits. We only played for a short while, so it remains to be seen whether this fun will last as you continue to play through the game and shape your garden or if the premise will wear thin. After seeing the extended demo from Rare and playing for a few hours though, we're anxious to find out as this lighthearted, though morbid, game is surprisingly fun.

Lost Planet - Interview with Jun Takeuchi

Xbox Gazette : Are we going to see a sequel if the game sells well?

Jun Takeuchi : While we have not made any definite plans we certainly hope that Lost Planet will become a successful franchise for Capcom.

Xbox Gazette : Will Lost Planet (and Dead Rising) stay an exclusive Xbox 360 title, or will it be ported to other platforms?

Jun Takeuchi : Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a 360 exclusive. I am afraid I cannot comment on Dead Rising as I did not work on this project.

Xbox Gazette : Can you talk a little bit about the engine you use for the game ? Is it the same one used in Dead Rising and do you plan to reutilize it in other games, like Resident Evil 5 ?

Jun Takeuchi : Yes, we are using the same engine that was created for Dead Rising and we are very pleased with what we have achieved given that these are our first two titles for the Xbox 360. As for Resident Evil 5, we do plan to use the same engine, but will be making a number of changes - you could say we will be tuning it to run like a GT car.
