Daredevil Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 Rainbow Six Vegas XBox360 Hands On CVG has the lowdown on the new Rainbow Six Vegas game for the Xbox360 (and PS3), and it sounds like it may just be the best R6 game to date. The realism level in the game is apparently mindblowing, and it is shaping up to be a fullly immersive experience. Molyneux did not have much to show Gamespot other than some concept art, but he did discuss some great things that the game held in store. In fact, in his own eyes, Fable 2 is a game that is going to make or break him as a developer. Powerful words indeed. >Link Guitar Hero 360 Controller in the Wild Shots of XBOX Live's Major Nelson mucking about with Guitar Hero II at X06 went up earlier this morning, putting an end to the question of whether or not the 360 version of the X-Plorer® controller/guitar/chick magnet was wireless. Previous media shots hadn't shown a controller wire sticking out the bottom, but from today's pictures, it's clearly there. Here's hoping the wire is 20 feet long so doing the solo from "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" won't be ruined by that "Reconnect Controller" message. A man can dream. >Link
xrest Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 X06: Moore Says No 360 Price Drop VP Peter Moore calmly states Xbox 360 will not see a price drop this fall. In a behind-closed-doors meeting at X06, Microsoft's European game conference, Vice President of Interactive Services Peter Moore stated the price of the Xbox 360, contrary to rumor, will not be reduced this fall. With Nintendo stating its $249.99 price, and Sony coming in high at $499.99 and $599.99, many online pundits speculated this fall would be the perfect time to drop the Xbox 360's prices to gain even more market share. Moore calmly stated prices would not drop, adding that Microsoft is happy about its current hardware prices. Why woudn't it be? Until Sony nabbed the highest price point with its unwieldly $600 MSRP, Microsoft was the most expensive console on the market (at $399) since the failed 3DO. Now, Microsoft looks pretty reasonable in comparison. What didn't Microsoft's VP say? He didn't say that Microsoft wouldn't make the same mistakes it did in the first generation, losing money hand over first on Xbox hardware sales. But you can bet your bottom dollar he was thinking it. LINK..
xrest Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 Xbox 360 CPU Upgrade in Q1 2007 Manufacturing process to switch from 90nm to 65nm. Vnunet.com reports today that Chartered Semiconductor of Singapore, manufacturer of the Xbox 360's CPU, will begin manufacturing a new version of the chip in Q1 2007. The current Xbox 360 CPU uses a 90-nanometer manufacturing process, a relatively old-fashioned technique compared to the cutting edge 40nm process soon to be perfected by Intel and AMD. Chartered Semiconductor will update the 360 CPU to a 65nm process, the current state-of-the-art in chip manufacturing techniques. The new Xbox 360 CPUs will benefit from lower power consumption, and thus much lower operating heat. The change will likely have a dramatic impact upon Xbox 360 reliability, as the console, especially the first batch of units manufactured before January 2006, has something of a reputation for being prone to hardware failure and the dreaded "Red Eye of Death." While the exact cause of the Xbox 360 hardware's tendency to die remains unclear, decreasing the internal operating temperature of any piece of high-end electronics has a dramatic effect on reliability. Microsoft will likely also benefit from reduced costs as a result of a more efficient manufacturing process that will allow for more CPUs per silicon wafer. LINK..

xrest Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 Half Life 2 Info The first game we checked out was Half-Life 2, which is essentially the same game that was released for the PC almost two years ago. The only difference, aside from the fact that you'll be playing with an Xbox 360 controller instead of a mouse and keyboard, is that the Xbox 360 version looks better. That's right, the Xbox 360 version of Half-Life 2 boasts visual enhancements that are available only in the subsequent episodic content on the PC, so regardless of how powerful your PC setup is, the Xbox 360 game will look better. To illustrate this point, we were shown a sequence in which you're riding through storm drains on an ATV and being hounded by an enemy helicopter--the lighting and particle effects were noticeably superior to those on the PC, and the water in the storm drain boasted a great reflection of the aforementioned enemy as it flew overhead. As impressive as that was, Valve's focus for X06 was clearly on Portal, so that's the game that we spent the bulk of our meeting checking out. http://www.gamespot.com/events/x06/s...ries;

privateer Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 Μέλος Δημοσ. 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 2006 "Under-pressure Sony must react to 360" - Ubi boss Increased competition will benefit everyone, argues Guillemot Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot has hailed Microsoft's X06 showcase, warning that the growing strength of 360 is putting market leader Sony under pressure to react with its rival PlayStation 3 console. Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz at the aftershow to the glitzy Barcelona event, Guillemot, whose firm significantly pledged an exclusive Splinter Cell title to the next-gen Xbox, said increased competition will benefit everyone in the market. "What Microsoft is showing is that even if Sony has a lead in market share, Xbox is going to get better penetration in Europe," he said. "It's good to have many players on the same battlefield; I think it will push Sony to react, and also Nintendo to look at how they position themselves to make their machine a success. When the manufacturers are making great games and pushing each machine hard it can help everybody make the videogames business a better business." But Guillemot refused to be drawn on whether Sony's market-leadership was now under seriously under threat, adding: "Sony is very far ahead in terms of market share so it's not possible to say today - we will see how Sony reacts. But there is more competition, which we think is good." Ubisoft proved one of the biggest third-party 360 cheerleaders on the night, with the announcement of the Splinter Cell exclusive and an on-stage demo of the stunning Assassin's Creed proving one of the highlights of the conference. On the decision to hand the next instalment of the lucrative adventures of stealth operative Sam Fisher to Microsoft, Guillemot explained: "Splinter Cell was created on the first Xbox, so we thought it was important to come back for one volume with Microsoft to create a very good quality title focused on using the full power of the system. "And especially for next year when the big guns will be out, it's very important to have a game that will use 360 to the full, because you will need that to fight against all the other games that will be there. For us it's a good way to win the next-gen battle. We love Xbox 360 because it's easy to develop on and that's why we want to put great quality products on it." Elsewhere, the French publisher boss also praised Microsoft's partnership with movie director Peter Jackson as vital to the development of interactive entertainment. "I think this was a great presentation not just because it showed great games, but also great future games," Guillemot insisted. "The most important thing was the alliance between the movie industry, the CGI industry and the videogames business. I think that's a good move in creating games that will bring more emotion to the experience - those guys know how to create emotion so they are going to help us as an industry to deliver that." Ubisoft worked with the Academy Award-winning filmmaker on the chart-topping Kong Kong videogame in 2005, and has previously expressed an intention to make film tie-ins account for 20 per cent of the publisher's overall business in the future.
