Capcom has risen from the dead after 5 years without an All Formats No1 thanks to the record breaking launch of Xbox 360 ʽDead Risingʼ giving the Japanese publisher their first All Formats No1 since ʽResident Evil Code: Veronicaʼ back in week 37, 2001.

The controversial zombie killing game succeeds where last weekʼs No1 ʽSaints Rowʼ had failed by edging past Ubisoftʼs ʽGhost Recon: Advanced Warfighterʼ to become the fastest selling Xbox 360 title to date. THQʼs ʽSaints Rowʼ is bumped down to No2 (sales down 43%) while the early launch of ʽLego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogyʼ gives Lucasarts No3. Lucasartsʼ Jedi mind tricks stop Microsoft from celebrating 3 Xbox 360 exclusives at the top of the All Formats Chart as Atari start their engines at No4 with ʽTest Drive Unlimitedʼ. ʽGangs of Londonʼ steals a march on the Top 40 with high profile advertising giving Sony this weekʼs highest climber, up from No23 to No11. Three weeks on and EAʼs ʽMadden NFL 07ʼ breaks into the All Formats Top 20 for the first time at No15 (thanks to the release of the Xbox 360 version this week), while ʽReservoir Dogsʼ from Eidos moves in the opposite direction as the recall of the Xbox version accelerates its decline out of the Top 10, down from No9 to No22. The only other new release to make the All Formats Top 40 Chart is Ubisoftʼs ʽEnchanted Armsʼ at No27, highlighting a great week for Microsoft by becoming the third Top 40 Xbox 360 exclusive charting this week.

Activision, Inc. announced today that Infinity Wardʼs critically acclaimed Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system has sold more than one million units in the U.S. alone, according to NPD Funworld.

 

The award-winning title is the # 1 best selling game on Xbox 360 and continues to be among the highest rated games for the platform, according to Gamerankings data.

Lost Planet Awarded Best Xbox 360 Game At Leipzig

 

Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that its epic sci-fi action shooter exclusive for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Lost Planet™: Extreme Condition, has again received top honors when it was recently awarded Best Xbox 360 Game at this yearʼs Leipzig Games Convention held on August 24-27. Voted upon by a panel of distinguished judges consisting of influential journalists, Lost Planet surpassed the other nominations with the enormous interest generated by the debut of its multiplayer modes at the show.

Kombat Komes to Next Gen

Fighting franchise will be re-envisioned for new consoles.

 

One of the most controversial decisions in the Mortal Kombat universe hasn't been the inclusion of fatalities, but that characters would be killed off. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, the latest installment of the franchise, has made that startling announcement as it proclaims that the upcoming title will be the final battle between good and evil. Is the end nigh for the fighting franchise?

 

Not according to Ed Boon, creative director of the Mortal Kombat team. During a recent visit to our offices, Boon mentioned some of the reasons behind the elimination behind some characters. "In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, we wanted to end a number of things, actually. We wanted to end this chapter of the story. This is the last Mortal Kombat on this generation of consoles, and we also wanted to end this kind of fighting mechanic for Mortal Kombat."

 

Boon also hinted at what the next generation of Mortal Kombat would entail, which also includes new visuals and controls:

 

"On the next game, we're going to start new, with a bunch of brand new characters, a whole new fighting system, a new presentation with the new graphics for the new consoles, as well as a new control scheme to take advantage of some of the new technology available. We thought it was a good time to close this chapter and open a new one with every single aspect of Mortal Kombat -- It's going to be brand new."Looks like the next generation will have fatalities after all
