Table Tennis demo coming to Xbox Marketplace

 

Rockstar Games has confirmed a Table Tennis demo for the Xbox Marketplace via Microsoft blogger Major Nelson. He writes: "I happen to be down talking to the folks that work with Rockstar, and they told me it would be ok for me to mention that there is a demo on its way to the Marketplace for Table Tennis. I also found out the demo is single and two-player (but no Live) play."

 

While no date was given (citing only "very soon"), Nelson said we'd know "the moment it's on Marketplace." Boo.

Small Arms Viral Achievement

 

Here is an interesting idea for an achievement, a few gamers will have the Six Degrees of Small Arms achievement, and anyone who plays them will get the achievement as well, and so on and so forth, hopefully spreading like wildfire. Win or lose, if you play someone who has the achievement you will get it as well. What an interesting idea, and very viral in nature. It will speak volumes about the popularity of the game and especially its online component.

 

It looks like it might not be worth any Gamerscore points though, as Microsoft is worried that the viral achievement wonʼt spread correctly.

 

I think it is a great idea.

 

Jacob Van Wingen, Small Armsʼ director/programmer, said:

 

Itʼs possible it can spread very quickly, and itʼs possible it might not…I think theyʼre concerned it may not spread, and they donʼt want it to be unattainable. Iʼm OK with it.

 

Small Arms is an indie game that should be up on the Xbox Live Arcade later this year, it is said to be very much like Super Smash Bros. I look forward to trying it out.

Xbox.com: Gears of War's New Release Date is...TBD

 

Last Friday, Andy's sharp eye found out that the official Xbox web site listed Gears of War with an October 2, 2006, release, a date that has been floating around online retail sites for a while.

 

We contacted a Microsoft spokesperson at the time of reporting our finding, but we only got a classic line, “thereʼs no official date set yet.”

 

We guess the same person that dated Gears of War on Xbox.com received a call over the weekend, since now the game's page at Xbox.com has a "TBD" (to be determined) date instead of the previous October 2, 2006, and the Q4 2006 date it had before that.

 

Even if the game is ready for early October, we've got a feeling that "Emergence Day" will take place the same day a certain $599 next-generation console launches. Your guess?

X-Scene forum head-moderator twistedsymphony sent us some news about an adapter he built that allows you to use a Sega Saturn controller with the Xbox 360:

The v1 Prototype of the Sat-2-360 Controller Adapter is now finished after two and a half months.

 

The intent of the adapter was to be able to use a completely unmodified Sega Saturn controller to play Xbox 360 Games. More specifically I wanted a good 2D gamepad to play upcoming Xbox Live Arcade titles such as Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Thankfully I was able to complete my adapter before either of the game have been release... so I'll be ready The adapter accomplishes everything I set out to do and then some. Seeing as I used a Wireless Xbox 360 controller the whole adapter is wireless and runs on batteries. Here's a video of the adapter in action:
