Bob Ross Painting Contest

Your art in a Wii game? Bob makes it happen.

When Bob Ross: The Joy of Painting was announced on April 1st of this year for Nintendo's Wii console, everyone (IGN included) was sure it was yet another April Fool's joke. As the days went on, however, nobody owned up to the caper, and Bob Ross: The Joy of Painting lives on as a real project. Though we still don't know who will be publishing the sure-to-be cult classic, or when the game will be released, the official site has once again been updated with Bob Ross Wii news. We'd explain the amazing news ourselves, but we find it's better to let ol' Bob tell you himself.

Taken from his official site:

"Bob Ross Interactive LLC is calling on the community to participate in the creation of the new Bob Ross Video Game in a fantastic way -- enter the official Bob Ross Video Game Art Contest today!

"Six lucky winners will have their paintings included in the high-density graphics of the Bob Ross Video Game, right along with Bob's own fantastic masterpieces. And one of those will be chosen as the grand winner, having his/her painting on the cover of the box, right along with Bob's own fantastic masterpieces!"

No further news was unveiled about the game itself, though the contest is already in full swing. More details can be found at the official site. And with that, we wish you good luck. We'll have more on Bob Ross: The Joy of Painting as news breaks.

Wii Enters Manufacturing?

According to one analyst, Nintendo already has factories running.

In a recent edition of his Game Over column on CNN Money, Chris Morris refers to an analyst note suggesting Nintendo is already manufacturing final retail Wii units -- well ahead of the system's expected launch this fall.

If true, Nintendo could sidestep the troublesome shortages which darkened Microsoft's Xbox 360 launch and which will almost certainly affect Sony's PlayStation 3. Obviously this also suggests Nintendo locked down the Wii hardware earlier than expected -- hopefully giving developers plenty of time with the final system. By contrast, Microsoft sent final X360 development kits to studios surprisingly close to the system's launch.

Nintendo did not immediately return requests for comment.

According to Morris, the same analyst -- P.J. McNealy with American Technology Research -- agrees with others in the industry that October is a likely launch time for the Wii, meaning Nintendo's unconventional and amiably-priced system will be scampering eagerly at stores just as Sony births its latest behemoth.

As for official word, the most Nintendo has said so far is that the Wii will launch this year for less than $250.

-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess,

-Metroid Prime 3: Corruption,

-Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors,

-Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz,

-Red Steel, and

-Rayman Raving Rabbits.

Wii Launch Speculation

Nintendo comments on early release rumors.

With all the speculation happening around the net regarding the Nintendo Wii's launch date, keeping rumors apart from fact can be a daunting task. Just recently, CNN Money posted a story speculating a Wii launch date in the late September to early October timeframe, based on a report that final Wii hardware is supposedly underway. Print magazine Sports Illustrated For Kids dropped its own November 6 release date, baffling fans even further. While we haven't received official word from the Big N on hardware specifics, the Japan powerhouse provided the following comment to IGN Wii on the state of the console's launch, as well as the recent printings of alleged Wii release dates. Nintendo had the following to say:

"A speculated launch date appeared recently in a print publication. Nintendo has not yet announced a date, but remains committed to launch the remarkable Wii console in the fourth quarter of 2006."

So while specifics still lurk in the dark, Nintendo confirms that no release date has been given to any publication, with the official stance still set between October and December of 2006. We'll have more Wii launch details as they break.

Rainbow Six Denied

Ubisoft shoots down Wii speculation.

When it comes to tactical simulators, the Tom Clancy series sits at the top of the console list. Sure, the franchise isn't always the most realistic, often featuring over-the-top scenarios and cutting-edge technology that would make James Bond blush, but that's all part of the excitement. At E3 2006, Rainbow Six: Vegas took the stage in spectacular fashion, blowing us away with tactical precision and a cinematic flair that rivals Hollywood's greatest. So when rumors surfaced regarding a Wii version of the franchise, we had to investigate: If not for your sake, then at least for ours.

Unfortunately, it seems as though Nintendo fans won't be seeing Rainbow Six: Vegas on the Wii any time soon. Despite the supposedly "leaked" release list and accidental Ubisoft site update, which displayed Wii as a supported console earlier this week, company representatives gave the following statement to IGN earlier today:

"Rainbow Six Vegas has been announced and is currently being developed for the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 platforms, and is not in development for any other consoles at this time."

When asking whether or not an alternate Rainbow Six title was in the works for Wii, Ubisoft offered no official comment. We'll have more on Rainbow Six: Vegas should news surface.

Blizzard Seeks Console Devs

Could World of Warcraft be migrating off PCs?

Not that we were looking for a new job, but browsing the Blizzard jobs page we saw something interesting.

Turns out Blizzard is looking for a Senior Producer who "recently shipped at least one AAA game in a producer role for one of these console platforms: Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, or GameCube." As plusses for the position, Blizzard lists "Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii production experience."

All together Blizzard is seeking a Next-Gen Senior Engine Programmer, Next-Gen Engine Programmer, Next-Gen Tools Programmer, Audio Software Engineer, and a Level Designer for the "Blizzard Console" team.

While it may not be news that Blizzard has console plans -- the company announced last month that it doesn't intend "to focus on only one genre or platform with [its] future games" -- the job listings indicate that console work is underway.

Given Blizzard's portfolio, which includes not just World of Warcraft but StarCraft, Diablo, and the original Warcraft, speculation as to what the acclaimed developer will do for consoles is especially delicious. Apart from the aborted StarCraft: Ghost project, Blizzard has historically focused on the PC.

Blizzard did not immediately return requests for comment.

Καλά, άμα είναι να παίζεις με το χειρηστήριο όπως ο τύπος στο βίντεο, την τενοντίτιδα δεν την γλιτώνεις :-)
