panther_512 Δημοσ. 17 Φεβρουαρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 17 Φεβρουαρίου 2006 Tecmo Announces Revolution Launch Title Maker of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive promising golf game at launch. Tecmo has become one of the first Japanese developers to pledge support for Nintendo's next generation Revolution console. The company announced today plans for a Revolution version of the popular Pangya golf series. The Revolution version is tentatively titled Skatto Golf Pangya Revolution and is set to launch simultaneously with the hardware. The Pangya golf series was developed as an Online Windows golf game by Korea's Ntreev Soft. Obtaining and playing the game are free, with players having to fork over cash if they chose to purchase clothing and other items. The game has been a huge hit in Korea and Japan and has since spread throughout the world. While Tecmo's announcement makes no mention of Online play for the Revolution version, we imagine there'd be no point in releasing the game without Online support. http://revolution.ign.com/articles/688/688913p1.html
Slay Δημοσ. 17 Φεβρουαρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 17 Φεβρουαρίου 2006 Web Browsing Confirmed For Revolution First it was the DS, now Nintendo has stated you will be able to surf the net via the Revolution! After yesterday's new from the DS Lite conference that gamers will be able to buy a version of the Opera web-browser for their DS, Nintendo of America was contacted to ascertain whether Revolution would have something similar. Their response? "Revolution owners will have the option to purchase that functionality." How the "purchase" would work, it wasn't made clear. Possibly the web-browser software could be bought (either on a disc or via download) which is then permanently loaded onto the Revolution's flash memory? However it works, it's good news all the same. Surfing the net with Revolution point-and-click style controls? Yes please! http://www.revo-europe.com/news.php?nid=8832

Read on to see what Reggie has to say about the new Nintendo DS (and how it's not “unreasonable” to assume that a third DS is in the works), the current state of the Revolution (and how that really is just a code name), how they're planning to introduce a new franchise on the level of Zelda/Mario/Nintendogs at E3 this year, how underwhelmed he was by the Xbox 360, and how he absolutely, positively has not seen that Nintendo ON video that was circulating last year. http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/20/the-engadget-interview-reggie-fils-aime-executive-vice-preside/
privateer Δημοσ. 23 Φεβρουαρίου 2006 Μέλος Δημοσ. 23 Φεβρουαρίου 2006 Revolution dev-kits: ver. 3 ~ 3.5 are out, ver 4 out soon, final kits in June Developers we spoke to confirm that - at least so far - three revisions of the development kits have been sent out to studios. The first development kit was, quite literally, a GameCube console with a wired Revolution controller attached. The second was the same with a few minor tweaks. And the third prototype, which was shipped to most studios about a month ago, follows the same structure, but also shows some boosts in CPU power, according to sources. Insiders allege that some big-name publishers have recently received a more complete Revolution development kit - we call it revision three and a half -- complete with internal hardware more reflective of the 'new generation' system and a wireless Revolution controller. However, most uncommitted third parties will not gain access to this unit for several weeks, if not longer. Developers making Revolution software that will show up at E3 2006 in playable form - high profile companies like EA and Ubisoft, to name a few - will soon be sent the official fourth SDK prototype, which promises to deliver between 90% and 95% of the final system's performance. Software houses tell IGN that any studio familiar with GameCube's architecture will find that they can get their Revolution projects up and running in no time. The make-up of the systems is very similar, although Revolution will be roughly twice as powerful. Asked whether or not Revolution's horsepower was insufficient, one development source said no. "At first, we were discouraged that it would be less powerful than Xbox 360, but once we got everything working with the controller, our concerns faded," he explained. Other studios IGN Revolution has been in contact with have echoed this enthusiasm, always admitting that Nintendo's new console will be less powerful, but stressing that with the emphasis on the innovative controller it simply won't matter. Final, completely finished development kits are expected to be made widely available this June, according to sources we contacted. Every studio insider we queried said that they believed Revolution could launch for under $200, and possibly as low as $150 - a figure that would amazingly put Nintendo's new console at a price point hundreds of dollars cheaper than any competitor. Nintendo itself has not yet commented on a Revolution price point, except to confirm that it would sell for less than $299. However, if the price of Revolution development hardware is any indication, the system could be very cheap indeed. Studios tell IGN that Revolution SDKs sell for about $2,000, which is thousands of dollars cheaper than a PSP SDK, let alone an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 one. The Big N is scheduled to speak - even if only a little bit - about its self-described new generation console this March at the Game Developers Conference. IGN Revolution will be there.

The latest rumor is that the next generation console from Nintendo may have a touch panel. NintendoRevolution.ca recently had an interview with an EA spokesperson that gave them a bit of insight that has helped get the rumor mill spinning some more. “The beauty of the new Revolution controller is that the possibilities for new game ideas are limitless. I'm sure that Nintendo already has a number of phenomenal design concepts built around 3D Pointing or Touch Sensitivity for their 1st party games. Our developers are inspired and excited by the new controller's features.”

Florida-based studio n-Space, best known for its GameCube first-person shooter Geist, is looking to expand for the future, according to a new report in the Orlando Sentinel. The paper writes that n-Space will be growing from 50 to more than 70 people as it bulks up to handle multiple projects for Nintendo's 'new generation' system, codenamed Revolution. IGN has been able to separately validate this news as accurate through our own sources. Few details about n-Space's Revolution titles are currently known. However, IGN speculates that Nintendo will once again serve as the publisher on the projects, as it did with Geist on GameCube. Further, the games are more than likely to be designed for older players, which is an audience that Nintendo's internal teams often overlook. The Big N has in the past contracted third party studios such as n-Space and Capcom to create original M-rated software for its platforms. Geist for GameCube was an undeserved bomb, releasing last August and selling only 30,000 copies through the year. We rated the game a solid 7.8 and noted that it created a moody atmosphere and presented some truly compelling gameplay mechanics, but sometimes lacked the technical prowess to complement its design accomplishments. http://revolution.ign.com/articles/690/690720p1.html

panther_512 Δημοσ. 7 Μαρτίου 2006 Δημοσ. 7 Μαρτίου 2006 THQ's First Revolution Game Revealed And guess when it'll be shipping to Nintendo's next generation console? Publishing giant THQ reiterated to IGN Thursday that it is working on multiple Revolution projects. A spokesperson for the company further revealed that one of its first games will be a version of Disney/Pixar's Cars for Nintendo's next generation platform. The title will debut "in the launch window" of the new system, according to the publisher. Cars has previously been announced for just about every major console and handheld in existence, including GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PC, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. The title follows the upcoming Pixar animated comedy of the same name. The project will deliver both racing and adventure elements, boast 10 playable car characters, a host of free-roaming environments and some 50 races. In addition, the stars of the feature film will lend their voices to the game. Although THQ has not yet announced an official release date, Cars is expected to debut for current generation platforms in conjunction with the movie this June. The Revolution build will obviously come later this year, as Nintendo's new generation platform is set for a November release. http://revolution.ign.com/articles/693/693218p1.html
panther_512 Δημοσ. 7 Μαρτίου 2006 Δημοσ. 7 Μαρτίου 2006 Midway Preps Revolution Project Set to arrive before the end of the year, according to the company's president. Big-name publisher Midway announced this week that it has at least one title planned for Nintendo's Revolution console and, further, that the project would arrive before the end of the year. That puts the game in the system's launch window. The news came directly from the mouth of the publisher's CEO, David Zucker, during a games event in Los Angeles. "Midway plans to ship its first Revolution game this fall," a spokesperson for the publisher confirmed to IGN Revolution. The company did not release any details about the title, but its rep did promise: "More details will be available as we get closer to E3 2006." Midway has a long history of successful franchises to draw upon, including everything from San Francisco Rush and Mortal Kombat to Blitz, Joust, Spy Hunter and Rampage. It is not yet known if the firm's Revolution game will be an entirely original effort, a franchise update, or a port of a title on another system. However, given that the game will launch with Nintendo's new system, it is very likely to show up in playable for at E3 2006, where we'll have a full hands-on report. http://revolution.ign.com/articles/693/693237p1.html

The rumours began to emerge after an article appeared on N-Planet.com which claimed the game would hit US shelves by 2007. Squenix president Yoichi Wada was quoted as saying that the game will feature "online capabilities, magnificent graphics and an intense use of the revolutionary control of the platform." But a spokesperson for Square-Enix told us: "The online reports are incorrect. No new information has been disclosed since the official announcement last May." Back then, Wada did hint that FF: Crystal Chronicles might have an online mode, stating: "We would like to strongly support Nintendoʼs next-generation networking plans. "The Revolution may embody a new platform beyond a portable or console, which makes possible a new structure in the network gaming system, changing the ways communities are built and supported. This is the kind of direction weʼve envisioned, and we will challenge ourselves to provide immersive interactive content in response to what Nintendo offers.” So, online play is a definite possibility - but for confirmation, and for news of whether the game will make use of the Revolutions crazy remote controller, we'll just have to wait and see. Here's hoping Squenix reveals more of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles at this year's E3... http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=63131
panther_512 Δημοσ. 9 Μαρτίου 2006 Δημοσ. 9 Μαρτίου 2006 Revolution's Attachable DVD Drive Not a dongle, but an entirely separate piece of hardware? Nintendo revealed last year that its next generation console, codenamed Revolution, would be able to play back DVD movies, an option not available on GameCube. The company stated at the time that a small attachment would enable DVD movie-playback. Pundits assumed that the Big N would take a cue from Microsoft and release a separately sold dongle to unlock DVD movie options, as Bill Gates and company did with the original Xbox. This explanation seemed to make the most sense given that Revolution's self-loading media bay would play both proprietary GameCube optical discs and Revolution's 12-centimeter optical discs, which are the same size as standard CDs and DVDs. But as it turns out, that may not be true. We don't know if we simply missed it during the hustle and bustle of E3 2005 or of Nintendo has since updated its official documentation on Revolution, but recently discovered wording on the console's DVD solution suggests that it may not use a dongle after all. Take a look at the official description of the console's media capabilities, quoted verbatim from Nintendo's press release. Two Disc Formats, One Slot: Instead of a tray, a single, innovative, self-loading media bay will play both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system as well as Nintendo GameCube discs. Owners will have the option of equipping a small, self-contained attachment to play movies and other DVD content. It's the second sentence that threw us for a loop. A small, "self-contained attachment" to play movies and other DVD content. Unless we're missing something, a self-contained attachment seems to suggest that Nintendo might sell a Revolution DVD-drive separately. An odd choice of words in the press release or a vague confirmation that a separate drive is in the works? Let the speculation begin. link
