Nintendo Revolution Goes Gold

As many of you gamers out there, "going gold" in the case of a game means that its final version has been sent out to be mass multiplied. Well, extending a little bit this definition it's safe to say that Nintendo's future gaming console "went gold".

Thus, according to gamemag.ru, who is citing Inside Gamer, is seems that Nintendo Revolutionʼs configuration is complete and the device is ready for mass production.

And since the release date for the Revolution is in May, that gives the Japanese manufacturers 5 months in order to manufacture enough consoles. Well, itʼs hard to define "enough" in this case, as the success of Nintendoʼs console is relatively uncertain, at this moment.

Revolution definitely less then $299 says Iwata

We constantly hear stories on how the Revolution will be cheaper then the competition, but we havenʼt gotten an official price point from Nintendo yet. The closest thing yet to an official price point just came from Satoru Iwata in an interview through Yahoo Japan. Mr. Iwata has stated that the Revolution will be in a different price point then the competitors, and that it will definitely be below $299 (stating the lowest price point for Xbox360).

Check out the link for the translated Yahoo page.

Nintendo of Europe Hints at Secret to Nintendo Revolution

Nintendo of Europe recently updated its Web site with a few tidbits concerning the company's next-generation console, code-named the Nintendo Revolution.

From the site: "On an as-yet-unannounced date in 2006 Nintendo will launch its next home console, code-named 'Revolution' - which will truly spark a revolution in gaming. We've already been given a sneak peek at its potential with the revelation of the groundbreaking one-handed controller with motion-sensitive technology. We already know that Revolution will let you play all your Nintendo GameCube titles and also a back catalogue of downloadable Nintendo classics. But if you think that's all there is to know about Revolution, think again... 2006 is going to be very interesting indeed."

Nintendo Game Designer Shigeru Miyamoto hinted back in December that there was another undisclosed secret regarding the Revolution. The company is expected to perform a full unvieling of its next console at its pre-E3 2006 conference, held on May 9th in Los Angeles, California.

Developers Discuss Nintendo Revolution with BBC

In a recent BBC article concerning the next-generation of game consoles, a number of individuals from organizations such as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Edge magazine discussed the Nintendo Revolution.

Margaret Robertson, who recently attended a technical demonstration of the system and its controller, said, "The expectation [is] that it is going to be a big clumsy but the moment you start using it, it is extremely precise." She continued by saying, "It has that slight hint of magic as you point your hand at the screen and what you want to happen, happens."

Head of Electronic Art's Canadian studio John Schappert also provided comment, stating,"We've got hands on with the Revolution and, sure enough, the controller is revolutionary. It is a control device unlike anything else we have played before."

In regards to launch dates for the the remaining next-generation consoles, namely the PlayStation 3 and the Revolution, Ubisoft President Yves Guillemot said, "We think September could be the right time for Sony in the US and November in Europe. Japan a bit earlier, say June or July." As for Nintendo's console, Guillemot said he expects Nintendo to aim for a similar launch date in the US and Japan, but that Europe might have to wait for the Revolution until early 2007.

Nintendo: Twilight Princess and Revolution "Pure Speculation"

NGC magazine, in their January edition, wrote that "[The Legend of Zelda:] Twilight Princess will be playable on the forthcoming Revolution using the upcoming console's unique controller." The magazine continued that "when you insert the disc into your Revolution, you'll be given the option to use the Revolution's controller, with all the advantages this will bring."

However, these claims have been proven false. Eurogamer recently interviewed a Nintendo representative, stating that the "article in the January edition of NGC Magazine is pure speculation."

The Nintendo representative continued that Nintendo has made no new announcements regarding Twilight Princess. "We can however confirm that the game is still in development and that it will launch on Nintendo GameCube in 2006."

According to Futurenet Publishing's Web site, NGC is independent from Nintendo and wrote that "we don't copy rumours and speculation off the nternet, either. Our tireless team of newshounds brings you reliable Nintendo gossip FIRST."

Magazine reveals Revolution details: Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Donkey Konga

While it's not exactly the kind of publication we thought would break all sorts of Revolution news, National Geographic Kids Magazine was invited by the Big N to test out the top-secret Revolution controller in Tokyo. They report, "The Revolution will be available later this year. You'll be able to use it with games you already have as well as with new games. Here are some old favorites and a few of the things you'll be able to do with this revolutionary new controller."

Wow! Let's break that down a bit:

* The system will be out this year. You can believe they got this straight from Nintendo and it is consistent with earlier rumors. 2006. Done.

* Backwards compatibility is of course something we've known about for awhile; however, the "old favorites" mention is so provocatively vague! They list The Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Brothers, and Donkey Konga. Question is, are they listing games or franchises? If they are listing games, does this mean the "old favorite" versions of these games (Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Melee) will use the Revolution controller to slash a sword or work as a shield? Nintendo recently said they "made no announcements" regarding such functionality. This of course does not mean there is no such functionality.

* If they in fact meant "old favorite" franchises, can we infer there are next-generation versions in the works? Did they get hands-on time using the controller? Are all three games in active production, complete enough to be shown to the press?

Either possibility is far more than they've shown in earlier press demos, where they used simple gameplay demos with crude graphics to emphasize the interface. There is, of course, the possibility they were shown those same demos, and were told by Nintendo what they could expect, to snazz up the story a bit more... but why invite them out to Tokyo for just that?

Fine, we admit: Nintendo has us wrapped around their precious little finger, making us feel like awkward teenagers, gaping at a pinup of the Revolution controller in our proverbial high school locker, swooning over every little nugget of news, knees buckling whenever Shiggy or Reggie open their mouths... how much longer can we stand it?

CES: Nintendo eyes eMagin's VR visor

eMagin has attracted Nintendo's attention with its Z800 3D Visor, which shares some resemblance to the infamous Virtual Boy. In fact, Nintendo has already purchased a number of the Z800 units, perhaps foreshadowing the Revolution's VR destiny. Adding further fuel to the fire, eMagin's Bruce Ridley revealed that his company was talking to all major console makers. But cool off there fanboys, the partnership is still a long shot.

Revolution definitive name

Hi all,

First i'd like to wish to all of you a happy new hear, with love, happiness, money, health and so on. And 2006, of course, will also be the year of Nintendo Revolution !

Before going further, i'll precise some little details. In the comments section, it appears that some people have not read my previous posts : Nintendo "ON" will be an Add-on, and won't be sold with the console. This includes the brain and the visor. I precise too that the motion detection using an infrared system has been cancelled, and that the Nunchaku attachment will replace it in its role of moving in the virtual environment. It's much cheaper.

I'll begin this year by announcing you the final name of the codenamed Nintendo Revolution. This name has been floating around for a long time, but it was in competition with two main others, which are Nintendo Millenium System and Nintendo Infinity System. So, the definitive name of Revolution will be Nintendo Revolution System, or Nintendo RS. Many of you will think : "hey, we already heard this name before, with Osoko Tanaka for example... ", or "Nintendo RS is the name of the fake video found on Google a few days ago...". You are true :-) But the final name is Nintendo RS, that's all. Why such a similarity with Nintendo DS ?

Simply because RS and DS will be able to connect each other for some exclusive functionalities that i'll explain soon, you'll see that RS has been developped in a way that DS will have an important role in some features. They will complete each other, in a kind of unique system. This is one of the surprises to come. Furthermore, DS and RS have in common that they represent a new way to play, and are radically different from other hardware. Finally, the public heards about "Revolution" for a long time, so the "Revolution" word had to be in the final name. You know every reasons by now, and next month at DICE, you'll see that i'm right. Reggie will say during his speech at DICE 2006 (February) that Nintendo RS is the official name of Nintendo Revolution.

As most of you know, one of the great features of the Nintendo Revolution will be the ability to download classic Nintendo games and play them on the Revolution. Clearly, Nintendo has taken a cue from the emulation scene. An updated list of the 200+ games has been posted at the Nintendo Forums, but the interesting thing to note (thanks, BJ!) is that some of these titles require special devices such as Hey You Pikachu which needs a microphone and Pokemon Stadium which requires the GB adapter. But if the Revolution controller is any indication, who knows what Nintendo will come up with.
