Mark Rein: (laughs) I can't say, I'm under NDA with Nintendo. But I can tell you that we're not doing, internally any development right now on the Wii. The Wii I'm sure is going to be a fantastic machine and sell really well but it's kind of below - it's not Intel integrated graphics but it's pretty far bellow the kind of min-bar of Unreal Engine 3. If you built a PC with that spec it wouldn't really be capable of playing an Unreal Engine 3 games decently. They're aiming at clearly at different audience that what we are. You know, Unreal Engine 3 can't run on Xbox 1 or PS2 either - and that's not to say that some of our licensees wont find a way to shoe-horn it into that platform, we certainly have some licensees that are doing some experiments in that area and it could very well happen. But that's a really tough job. And one thing that has become public knowledge in the last little while is that Ubisoft's game Red Steel is using Unreal Engine 2, so there will be Unreal Engine games on the Wii. There will be Unreal Engine games on the Wii and hopefully they'll be successful and maybe we'll make a little money from it, but Unreal Engine 3 - that's a little below our target platform. Do you think the Wii will be able to emulate the success of the DS? Mark Rein: They certainly have a lot of buzz right now and if they can have a low enough price (NOTE: our interview was conducted before Nintendo's recent price announcement)- you know, people compare the DS and the PSP but the DS is half the price of the PSP, It's going for a different market than the PSP almost and so maybe that's the difference between Wii and PlayStation 3 or Wii and Xbox 360. Maybe they're going to come out at a significantly lower price point and they'll be able to do some really cool stuff with it, we'll have to wait and see. Or wait and Wii (laughs).

With all the news circulating about launch numbers both here in the US and worldwide, fans of both Nintendo and Sony are starting to hear pre-fight banter bouncing back and forth concerning the amount of available units on each respective launch day, as well as total units for 2006. Though the two companies claim to not be in direct competition with each other, there's no denying the fact that during this holiday season there's only a certain amount of available shelf space at retailers, and the company with the most units in circulation could have a distinct advantage over the competition regardless of price or key demographic. Though the company's launch intentions were made perfectly clear during its New York event just a few weeks ago, Nintendo has one more message to send out to both fans and competitors alike as the Wii launch date draws near: "A number of outlets have reported a misstatement about the number of Wii consoles that will be available in the Americas during the launch rollout. In fact, the truth is even better. After the Americas lead the worldwide launch on Nov. 19, Nintendo expects to sell 4 million Wii consoles globally by the end of 2006, with the largest allotment available in the Americas. Although we expect a huge demand for the consoles, we are working to ensure a plentiful supply and a consistent flow." We'll have more on the Wii launch as news develops, including exact projected numbers for each region as the information becomes available.

As previously confirmed by Iwata and various other key figures, the Wii wonʼt initially come with web browsing access but will be available on download. The company today went on board to confirm that Opera Wii will be available for free until July 2007 via the consoleʼs Wii Shop Channel. From July 2007 onwards players must purchase the browser using Wii points (in the same way as downloading virtual console games). The number of points needed to purchase the browser has not yet been confirmed. The press release notes: With support for Flash and AJAX-based content such as Google maps, Wii users will benefit from a feature-rich Internet experience that is uniquely customized for the Wii. Opera for Wii boasts the same complete standards support as the Opera 9 Desktop Browser, and includes the added functionality of ʽZoomʼ and ʽBookmarksʼ. The Wii remote control will also be an integral part of browsing, allowing users to intuitively control the Web with their Wii remotes.

He believes that EA really spent alot of time on developing the game for this console and it's almost as if it was built from ground up. He remarks the graphics are 'well beyond the GC' and better than Xbox. quote: EA has really invested a lot of time and resources into making the game play well. The controls don't feel as though they were designed for GameCube and made to fit with the Wii remote. They feel like they were built for the Wii from the ground up, which is pretty much the truth. Within 10 minutes or so, I was moving along pretty smoothly and having a great time with the game. We grabbed a ton of crispy footage that we'll be posting up soon with any luck, so you'll be able to see everything for yourself.
