Video of Broadway manufacturing reveals hint of Broadway die size/power?

Someone on IGN boards found a video of Broadway being manufactured by IBM.

 

 

 

On 0:10 we can see a wafer. It looks like it has 8 blocks with 7 CPUs each, so that would be 56 CPUs in one line. The CPUs look square. If we assume this is an 300mm wafer (anything else seems unlikely), then Broadways die is about 5mm x 5mm = 25 mm^2. (300mm/56 = 5.36mm)

 

The Gekko die is 43 mm^2 but manufactured with a 180nm process. If you would manufacture that design at 90nm like the Broadway it should be about 11mm^2. So if the Broadway is really 25mm^2 it should offer quite a bit of additional power over Gekko, not just a higher clockspeed. 512kb L2 cache instead of 256kb cache in the Gecko is pretty much a given imho. IIRC the L2 cache uses under 50% of the Gekko die, so even with 512kb cache we would still be around 15mm^2. So there is still room for stuff that adds more performance like additional execution units or splitting the Gekko pipeline into more steps to reach a even higher clockspeed than would you would be able to get from the shrink alone.

 

After looking at this evidence it seems pretty likely that Broadway is quite a bit more than just a overclocked Gekko.

SEGA Virtual Console Lineup

Ecco The Dolphin, Altered Beast, Golden Axe and more.

 

A recent update by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has revealed a number of SEGA titles coming to Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console. The classic games include all of the following:

 

* Ecco the Dolphin

* Altered Beast

* Toe Jam & Earl

* Golden Axe

* Columns

* Sonic the Hedgehog

* Ristar

Readers can verify this information for themselves by going to ESRB's official website and doing a search by platform for Wii games.

 

The fact that these classic games show up for Wii on ESRB's website is a good sign because publishers have to submit their games for the organization's approval prior to their release -- hence, the ESRB would not just create a list like this out of thin air.

 

Will these titles and more be debuted at Nintendo's Wii event this Thursday? We'll keep you posted.

Is Nintendo Already Boxing Wii?

Some readers allege they were contacted for a Wii assembly line; new Nintendo job posting backs it up.

 

The IGN message boards have run abuzz with allegations from a poster that Nintendo is seeking 150 people to begin packing finished Wii consoles as soon as Tuesday.

 

Clever users investigated a number of work agencies postings and found recent job openings for Nintendo's North Bend location, which houses the facility that packages and distributes the publisher's products. However, the most compelling job posting is listed directly on Nintendo's official website. Nintendo of America is looking for a production agent trainee to work out of its North Bend facility, and the person will most definitely be handling as many Wii systems as they can get their hands on.

 

Directly from the Nintendo job posting:

 

* "It's an exciting time to be a part of Nintendo's team! Millions of eager fans are eagerly anticipating the launch of our revolutionary new console, Wii. As a Production Agent Trainee, you'll be on the front-lines--working tirelessly to ensure they don't leave stores empty handed this holiday season.

 

At least one IGN board poster has applied for the position and will undoubtedly report back with details if he nabs the job. We're keeping our fingers crossed.

 

In the meantime, the latest allegations - combined with Nintendo's own job posting - seem to back up reports from studios that the console is finished and that the Big N could spring an early launch on consumers if and when it reveals Wii's price and release date later this week.

Nintendo Europe Hypes Wii Event

 

This is an event you must not miss. Wii promise.

 

Για όσους δεν γνωρίζουν, η Nintendo θα διοργανώσει τρείς εκδηλώσεις με κύριο θέμα την παρουσίαση όλων πιθανών των λεπτομερειών για το Wii, όπως την τιμή της κονσόλας, την ημερομηνία που θα κυκλοφορήσει στην αγορά, τα παιχνίδια που θα κυκλοφορήσουν το ίδιο διάστημα και ίσως κάνα δυό μυστικά ακόμα....

 

Στις 13 Σεπτεμβρίου (αύριο δηλαδή) θα γίνει η πρώτη εκδήλωση στην Ιαπωνία, στις 14 στην Αμερική και στις 15 στην Ευρώπη.

 

Δυστυχώς οι εκδηλώσεις αυτές θα είναι prive (invitation-only), οπότε όσοι τυχεροί βρίσκεστε Λονδίνο στις 15, θα είναι λίγο δύσκολο να παρευρεθείτε.

 

Συνεπώς, από αύριο και μέχρι τη Παρασκευή αναμένεται καταιγισμός από πολλά και ενδιαφέροντα νέα!

Από σήμερα μέχρι την Παρασκευή, η Nintendo διοργανώνει ενημέρωση για το Wii σε Λονδίνο, Ιαπωνία, Ν.Υ.(νομίζω). Θα ανακοινωθούν η τιμή και οι ημερομηνίες κυκλοφορίας.

Όποιος βρει πληροφορίες σε οποιοδήποτε site ας τις γράψει εδώ (το ίδιο θα κάνω και εγώ :) )
