panther_512 Δημοσ. 1 Αυγούστου 2006 Δημοσ. 1 Αυγούστου 2006 Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Interview In an interview with 1UP.com, Associate Producer for Activision Chris Palmisano talked about controls and visual attributes specific to the Wii version of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Palmisano confirmed that the Wii flavor of the game would sport a modified control scheme. "The basic game controls like the camera and the movement and stuff like that -- you can do that on the Wii with left side in most cases. Then there are standard combo moves, which you can also do with the Wii controller," said Palmisano. Concerning the issue of player fatigue while playing Wii, Palmisano stated, "I don't know how many games you're going to see where people are jumping around -- our game is an RPG so it's really hard to require that much physical energy to play a game for 30 hours." In regards to how the visuals in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance stack up on various platforms, Palmisano put the Wii version ahead of current-generation console versions, but below the versions of the game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. "Fundamentally, it's almost using the same [character] models as the current-gen. They're a little bit better. It's actually got real-time shadows in it, and the way the Wii processes graphics is a little bit better," Palmisano noted. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is a confirmed launch title for Nintendo's Wii, due out in the fourth quarter of this year. The game will contain over 20 playable characters from the Marvel universe, with players able to meet more than 100 others. Daredevil Δημοσ. 2 Αυγούστου 2006 Δημοσ. 2 Αυγούστου 2006 Mortal Kombat Armageddon Coming to Wii But didn't series co-creator Ed Boon say Wii couldn't do fighters? Fatalities are coming to Wii in the first quarter of next year when Midway ports Mortal Kombat Armageddon. Considering Wii isn't designed to pump out much more than GameCube-level graphics, there's a natural fit, but wasn't Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon the one who said fighting games wouldn't work on Wii? Let's hop into 1UP's time machine and check out a choice quote from the December 2005 issue of EGM: "I think Nintendo would be crazy to bet the farm on such a dramatic departure from what people are accustomed to." And what about his comments from a Game Informer interview this past March? Oops. "You know, I don't know how you could. One of the things about the Revolution controller is that you don't have immediate access to a whole bunch of buttons. It's like your holding a television remote and you have that directional pad and you have a big A button next to it. But there's not five or six buttons to give you all of these functions, so maybe they will compensate but tilting one way for blocking or another way for attack. But that is so dramatically different. So it will either be one of the biggest hits in the world or a big failure. I certainly hope it does well." The announcement doesn't detail how the controls will work, but apparently Boon's gone and changed his tune, so hopefully we'll know more soon. The developer, which is best known for its Mario sports titles including Mario Tennis and Mario Golf, as well as the original Hot Shots Golf and the hit Game Boy Advance RPG Golden Sun, is reportedly focusing on a single project for the PC platform. While speaking on a panel at the Ziff Davis Electronic Games Summit in Napa earlier today, Ubisoft North America President Laurent Detoc revealed that his company currently has seven titles in development for Nintendo's upcoming Wii platform. This show of support came as a surprise to many, as the company had previously only demonstrated two of those seven titles: Rayman Raving Rabbids and Red Steel. Detoc praised the Wii several times during the panel, stating that he expects it to have "a large audience and market." He also stated that he personally felt that in a time when fewer and fewer games appeal to him, the Wii offers plenty of enjoyment. "The first time I picked up that sucker I couldn't stop playing it." On the same panel, Midway President David Zucker stated that his company has six titles in development for the Wii.

Daredevil Δημοσ. 4 Αυγούστου 2006 Δημοσ. 4 Αυγούστου 2006 Activision: 360 To PS3, Current-Gen To Wii? Following on from their financial results announced recently, Activision execs got talking on developing for the 'next-gen' consoles. He implied that companies will be using current SKU's as the basis for their Wii launch titles. He commented that there are many similarities between the PS3 and 360, but we will see rewards in 'art and animation' across all 3 next-gen platforms including the Wii too. quote: When asked about progress in constructing games for the PlayStation 3, and how easy it is to port titles from Xbox 360 or vice versa, execs noted: "This has always been a core focus and strategy and ours... we're encouraged. We are starting to port elements from the 360 to the PlayStation 3, and also from current-gen platforms into Nintendo Wii." This comment from Activision is particularly interesting, since it implies that the kind of technology available for the Wii has much more similarity with current-gen machines such as the GameCube or PS2 than with next-gen platforms such as Xbox 360. A follow-up comment noted that, of the three next-gen platforms, there are "...many more similarities between 360 and the PS3, but and we are getting the benefits over all 3 platforms in art and animation investment", implying, perhaps, that more complexity in terms of polygon counts and animation blending is available on the Wii than current-gen machines. panther_512 Δημοσ. 4 Αυγούστου 2006 Δημοσ. 4 Αυγούστου 2006 Interview: Ubisoft on Wii Launch Games Ubi North America president Laurent Detoc gives us the scoop on Wii Far Cry, Blazing Angels and the new GT racer. Publisher Ubisoft on Thursday morning announced that it would bring seven new games to Nintendo's Wii console in time for the system's launch. The company's seven Wii efforts include the previously revealed Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, as well as Far Cry, Blazing Angels, Open Season, Monster 4x4: World Circuit, and an exclusive new racer called GT Pro Series. IGN recently chatted with Ubisoft North America's president, Laurent Detoc, about whether or not these games could realistically be called ports. And could Ubi be planning a Wii accessory for its new racer? Keep reading. IGN Wii: Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions. What is your opinion of Nintendo's Wii console? Do you think it can compete at retail against Xbox 360 and PS3? Laurent Detoc: Ubisoft believes in the Wii and we always have. We saw great potential in the platform from the beginning and as you know, have made a huge splash with Red Steel at E3 and now Rayman Raving Rabbids. Both of these games were built from the ground up for the Wii. Wii is a different video game experience than the Xbox 360 and PS3. It's unique, immersive and redefines the experience of playing games. We think it's going to be a hit. IGN Wii: Seven Ubisoft launch titles for Wii! That's a lot of support. What is driving your decision to bring these games to Nintendo's new console? Laurent Detoc: We made a bet by starting development for the Wii earlier than others and we intend to maintain our advance on the platform. You can see it as a double-down move. We don't have a crystal ball but we think the Wii is going to be a huge success right away and we want to be the number-one independent publisher for Wii in 2006. IGN Wii: You announced Far Cry for Wii. Will this be a port of the Xbox version or based more on the 360 game? What can we expect in terms of graphics and gameplay control from this version of what is a very popular franchise? Laurent Detoc: First, Far Cry Wii will include elements from Far Cry Instincts Evolution, in addition to a fresh storyline, new maps, characters and equipment. Second and even more importantly, Far Cry has strong diversity of gameplay so the game is a natural fit for the Wii remote. IGN Wii: Far Cry will be releasing against Red Steel, another first-person shooter from Ubisoft. Are you afraid of cannibalizing your own sales? Laurent Detoc: At first glance people think the remote is perfect for swinging movements like in baseball. I think FPS with varied gameplay using the Wii remote will be a blast. Both games will be excellent and offer different experiences. IGN Wii: What major changes, if any, can we look forward to with the Wii version of Far Cry? Laurent Detoc: You will be able to shoot using the remote; you will also be able to throw grenades, punch, jump, run and balance to keep from plunging to your death. You will also be able to drive cars, trucks and boats. If you're looking for a game that allows you to experience the true beauty of the Wii and its revolutionary remote technology, this is it. IGN Wii: How will Blazing Angels be enhanced for Nintendo's new console? Laurent Detoc: For a dog fighting game like Blazing Angels, we think the best idea is for the player to separate their two hands. The left and right hands will perform separate roles with less crossover and collaborative control patterns. Players will have an easier time concentrating on one hand while using the other to facilitate simple routines. IGN Wii: How will Monster 4x4 be enhanced over the previously released version? Laurent Detoc: From Day 1 we had a research team work on all the ways to exploit the remote and while Red Steel was unveiled first, driving controls have been studied ad-nauseum for a while now. So for Monster 4x4 we rebuilt the controls to use the motion-sensing features and aimed for easy controls with a focus on intuitiveness. This enables the best emotion possible in a driving game: you feel like you're at the wheel. But it's an arcade game too so be ready for stunts. Your truck can do a donut when you make a circular movement. IGN Wii: What can gamers expect from the racer GT Pro Series? The game seems to be exclusive to Wii. How does it use the remote to better the racing experience and what sort of features, cars and options can we expect in the finished product? Laurent Detoc: GT Pro Series is inspired by a Japanese game that was never released here and Ubisoft is optimizing for the Wii. It will have more than 80 licensed cars, tons of tuning options and fluid drift-style controls and physics. Talk about how the Wii changes the way you play games, we're working to include an accessory in GT Pro Series that will make this game a must have. Stay tuned, literally. IGN Wii: Are there online modes planned for any of these games using either Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or WiiConnect24? Laurent Detoc: We will be able to provide more information on this feature for each of the new games soon. IGN Wii: Finally, any final words for Wii readers anticipating these projects? Laurent Detoc: From what I've played and observed, the Wii will be successful. It changes our entertainment experience as gamers. It is innovation at its finest. As a creative company, Ubisoft embraced the remote as a gold mine for our talented developers to imagine new ways to play and interact with their TVs. That's what you will get from us across seven games in four different genres.

Get the full scoop right here. Wii fans, Ubisoft is your new best friend. The publisher has supported Nintendo's Wii console since it was first revealed, eagerly readying such anticipated exclusives as the first-person shooter Red Steel and the action-platformer Rayman Raving Rabbids, both of which are set to debut with the system in a matter of months. But guess what? The French videogame giant is hardly stopping there. It has another five - yes, five games planned for Wii, and they'll all arrive in time for the platform's launch window. Ubisoft today announced that it is in development with versions of Far Cry, Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, Monster 4x4 World Circuit and Open Season for Wii. In addition, the studio is bringing an all-new racer called GT Pro Series to the system. The publisher also said that it has "many more titles in development" for Wii. Ubisoft France also allegedly revealed that a Wii Prince of Persia title is in development and will be released -- at least in France -- next March. The source of this information is still being verified. The company's US subsidiary had no further details to offer on this game, but an American release is a certain eventuality, even if it's not yet official. "We're thrilled that Ubisoft will be unveiling Wii versions of both exclusive new IP and established franchises," said Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer for Nintendo of America. "Bursting with creativity, innovation and unadulterated fun, these Ubisoft games embody the qualities that will make Wii a huge hit with gamers new and established, young and old." "Media and analysts agree that Ubisoft has the greatest potential for reward with the new console's launch because we believed in its potential from the beginning," said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America. "With an impressive lineup of launch games that offer something for everyone, we are in a unique position to benefit from the Wii's success in appealing to both new and hardcore gamers." The popular first-person shooter Far Cry pits players on a mission through lush Amazonian jungles and equips them with a variety of weapons, vehicles and special powers to attack the enemy. The game will make full use of the Wii-mote for enhanced maneuverability and will likewise boast new content. Blazing Angels utilizes the Wii controller for intense dog fighting scenarios set to the backdrop of WWII. The racer GT Pro Series is developed by MTO and optimized by Ubisoft for Wii. Through a deal with MTO, Ubisoft is able to distribute the project everywhere in the world except Japan. GT features more than 80 licensed cars, detailed tuning options, fluid drift-style controls and physics, and more. The title has been specifically tailored to make full use of the Wii's revolutionary remote. Open Season is an adventure game based on the Sony Pictures Animation's CG animated film of the same name. Monster 4x4 World Circuit is a truck racer that has been completely revamped to make full use of the Wii control system. The title takes players fully off-road for some muddy displays of mechanical power. Finally, previously announced big guns Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids round out the selection. IGN interviewed Ubisoft North America's president, Laurent Detoc, about today's news. We highly suggest readers comb the interview for brand new information on Far Cry, Blazing Angels, GT Pro Series, and Monster 4x4: World Circuit for Nintendo's new console. Readers may be surprised to learn that these are much more than mere ports. In addition, IGN has posted new screens of Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, as well as first screens of Monster 4x4: World Circuit in our their related media sections. With seven official launch window titles from Ubisoft, the ever-expanding library of holiday Wii games is nearing 30 titles, and there are still more to come.
