Those were words from Microsoft at a recent presentation where they revealed their Xbox 360 retail launch plans to 329 Gamestation store staff exclusive, getting ready to bring this year’s hottest product out to their costumers. The presentation was held by product managers Murray Pannell and Brett Siddons, and their exact words were;

 

“If you take one thing away from this conference, then it must be that Perfect Dark Zero will be to 360 what Halo was to the original Xbox,”

Πρώτον το παιχνίδι δεν είναι το καλύτερο της νέας γενιάς παιχνιδιών , αλλά το καλύτερο από τα fps αυτά που θα κυκλοφορήσουν μαζί με την κονσόλα.

Δεν μπορεί η Ms και η κάθε εταιρία που βγάζει μία κονσόλα να πει: πάρτε τώρα την κονσόλα και το killer ap θα είναι έτοιμο σε 6-8 μήνες.

Γιατί το GoW βρίσκεται αυτή την στιγμή στο 50% της υλοποιησής του και κάπου τόσο θα πάρει να ολοκληρωθεί.

Δεύτερον δεν μπορούμε να συγκρίνουμε ανόμοια πράγματα , όπως είναι το 1st person PDZ με το 3rdperson GoW (πόσο μάλον το GoW με το Deads Rissing που είχε γράψει κάποιος άλλος μερικά posts πριν).

Αν θέλουμε να υπάρχει κάποια σωστή βάση συζήτησης θα πρέπει να συγκρίνουμε παιχνίδια με ίδια φιλοσοφία σχεδίασης και ίδιες επεξεργαστικές απαιτήσεις (π.χ. PDZ με COD2).

Προσωπικά σε αυτήν την σύγκριση έχω την αίσθηση ότι PDZ θα υπερτερεί αλλά πρέπει να περιμένω μέχρι την X05 για να μπορώ να πω ότι είμαι βέβαιος.

Microsoft and Intel are expected on Tuesday to pledge their support for HD-DVD, the next-generation DVD format created by Toshiba. Microsoft had previously remained neutral in the standards war between HD-DVD and Sony-backed Blu-ray, as the company's VC-1 Windows Media Video codec will be included with both formats.

The companies said they had not ruled out incorporating Blu-ray technology in their operating systems and on their chips in the future. But they are convinced that as of now, the HD-DVD format discs can be produced more cheaply and more quickly than the Blu-ray discs, and are therefore likely to become the dominant technology.

"We were neutral for a long time," Jordi Ribas, the director of technical strategy for Windows at Microsoft, said. "But we're approaching the time when this has to come to market and from our standpoint, the earlier the better."

 

In the end, copyright controls may have been the deciding factor for Microsoft and Intel. As the two companies push out more Media Center enabled PCs, the movement of protected content around the home becomes an important factor.

Blu-ray will include advanced watermarking technology that favors standalone consumer electronics devices by requiring authorization codes built into the hardware to access content. Such security features could make it difficult for consumers bouncing video from a PC to a TV, or those streaming content between networked computers.

Not-So-Perfect Dark Zero

 

A common theme amongst observations appears to be the game's wildly exaggerated rag doll physics. Though tweaks are to be exepected between now and release, between maintaining a stable frame rate, optimizing the multiplayer code (which has now dropped from 64 to 50 to 32 players simultaneously since the game's announcement) and simply applying a respectable layer of polish in time for the game's launch/Christmas release, it seems doubtful the rag doll physics will even be touched. That's just me spouting off, though; don't jump me if X05 footage shows something a bit more realistic.

Incredibly annoying hallucinating bunnies reveal the secret of Xbox 360 countdown

 

The much-hyped "Origen Xbox 360" count-down has finally hit zero - revealing that the site is actually a contest offering consumers a chance to win trips to an Xbox 360 launch event in the United States in November.

 

The viral marketing campaign, which had been rumoured to be anything from the announcement of Halo 3 to the launch of a chain of Xbox 360 stores in major cities around the world, finally revealed its purpose at midday today.

 

However, anyone hoping for a major product or service announcement was disappointed - with the incredibly impenetrable website, laden with load delays and Flash animations of rabbits taking hallucinogenic drugs, turning out to be a relatively simple contest.

 

The real meat of any product announcements Microsoft has to make is likely to come over the coming week, with the X05 showcase event taking place in Amsterdam in the middle of next week - and Halo 3 widely rumoured to be the big announcement of the event.

 

Indeed, the first issue of forthcoming UK magazine Xbox World 360 has a front cover featuring the Master Chief and proudly pronouncing that Halo 3 is covered inside - although what they've actually seen of the game is as-yet unknown.

 

So that's the Origen countdown entirely defused then, and the wait goes on for any really major announcements on the Xbox 360 front - although hopefully when they do come, they won't be presented in the form of over-hyped websites which look like they've been created by art college students whose brains have turned to mush thanks to a constant diet of cannabis, ironic t-shirts with Boba Fett on them and re-runs of Bagpuss on television.

Καλά κάτι τέτοια έλεγε και το breed (παιχνίδι για PC) ότι και καλά 8α ήταν o δολοφόνος του Halo και τελικά έπιασε το κάτω μέρος του πάτου....

ANYWAY...to the article, the front page, quite frankly, is a let down, a misleading one at that. All the article is, is some reader's sending in there views on what the next halo should bring to the table, and that is it, nw confirmations, no screens. I think the only reason they did this was for more copies that needed to be sold, because, it is quite a poor edition to be honest, anyway, there's you confirmation of the non-confirmation of halo 3, sorry about that, Cheers, Dan
