Δεν νομίζω οτι η cache του Cell είναι λίγη για τη χρήση που προορίζεται. Και αυτό

γιατί τα 512 Κb τα χρησιμοποιεί στην ουσία μόνο ο PowerPC Core αφού οι

υπόλοιποι 7 πηρήνες (SPEs) έχουν απο 256 Κb cache o καθένας...Νομίζω πιο

σωστό θα ήταν να πούμε οτι ο Cell έχει 512+256x7 = ~2,3 Mb cache που δεν

νομίζω οτι είναι λίγο για cpu κονσόλας....

Τα τρία cores της cpu του 360 μοιράζονται το 1Μb cache με την όποια επίπτωση

μπορεί να έχει αυτό στην απόδoση, οπότε κατα τη γνώμη μου τα πράγματα είναι

πολύ χειρότερα αλλά και πάλι όπως βλέπεις απο τα games, κάθε άλλο παρά

αδύναμη cpu έχει το 360....Τώρα όσον αφορά το άρθρο του Anand να πώ οτι

η απόδοση της cpu εξαρτάται και απο την εφαρμογή που θα τρέξει...Γενικά στο

anandech είναι αρκετά PCακηδες και οι κριτική που κάνουν είναι με βάση τα

PC και τις εφαρμογές τους οπότε είναι λογικό να έχουν κάποιους ενδοιασμούς

όταν μια τεχνολογία ξεφεύγει κάπως απο τα συνηθισμένα standard των PCs...

Sony Quizzing For PS3 Online

List points to a possible Xbox Live-type service.

Sony continues to say they're leaving online gaming in the hands of individual developers and publishers, even as developers seem to continually favor Microsoft's approach.

The difference between what Sony's saying publicly and actually prepping for, however, may be completely different, if a recent online poll is any indication.

 

An IGN forum user was one of those invited to participate in the survey asking users a number of questions about their online preferences. There's no doubt Sony will up the ante with their PlayStation 3 service, but many of the questions seem to point to the possibility of a unified, Xbox Live-esque service.

 

Why else would Sony be wondering about the

"ability to choose an Avatar for all online titles,"

"a standard, interactive lobby structure for all games,"

"headset support in all online games," and perhaps most importantly,

"a single identity and password for all online games."

Sounds an awful lot like features found in a competitor's machine. :mrgreen:

 

No one wants to pay for an online service, but you'll be hard pressed to find a gamer who wants individual usernames, passwords and friend lists for all their online games. The fact that Sony's even asking, however, bodes well for PlayStation 3 online.

Financial analysts are predicting that when the PlayStation 3 officially launches this year (if it indeed launches this year) the number of units available will be even less than the number of Xbox 360 consoles that were available at its launch. According to analyst Evan Wilson of Pacific Crest Securities, a summer PS3 launch in Japan would have just one million units. That will then be followed by a one million unit November launch for North America, concluding with a European launch slated for March of 2007.

 

One of the reasons behind the estimated low PS3 count involves the available inventory of the "Cell Processor" chips that will power the PS3. Of course, this is speculation, so until Sony is ready to shed more light on its upcoming next-gen console launch, we can imagine there will be many folks waiting in line at stores to get their hands on one.

Analysts Predict PlayStation 3 Launch Delay, Unit Shortage

 

Following a weak showing at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, analysts have predicted a delay in the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 console this year, with one going as far as to predict launch numbers lower than even those of the Xbox 360, according to a Marketwatch article.

 

Evan Wilson, an analyst with Pacific Crest Securities, stated that a summer Japanese launch of 1 million units, followed by a November launch in the United States of similar numbers and a March 2007 European launch, is "the most likely scenario" for the PlayStation 3's premiere."

 

Additionally, Wilson predicts that the PlayStation 3's American launch line-up will be "clearly weaker then [sic] the Xbox 360 holiday 2006 line-up. The analyst suggested: "All we've seen are [demos] running on a box supposed to be the equivalent of the PS3. We really have no idea."

 

The largest factor in a potential delay would most likely be due to a manufacturing challenge, with Sony carefully maximizing the chip's yield on the unit's advanced "Cell Processor." There is also the possibility of a lack of software support, though Sony Computer Entertainment of America's Kaz Hirai stated at Sony's Consumer Electronics Show keynote speech that over four thousand development units have been shipped.

 

Another possibility may be the cost of Blu-Ray technology, the media format Sony will be using for the console. Sony Chairman Howard Stringer maintains that the PS3 will contain a Blu-Ray player, and analysts predict a launch price of about $400. By comparison, both Samsung and Pioneer have recently announced consumer standalone Blu-Ray movie players in the four-digit range.
