Summing up the PC Gamer Article

4/21/05 12:28 PST | Duke Nukem Forever News | Eclipse

Having now had the chance to read the short article on DNF in June's PC Gamer, I would have to say that there isn't any information contained within the text that has not been released by 3D Realms previously. George Broussard confirmed that DNF was restarted again in 2002, and that 3DR's own rendering technology now operates on top of the Unreal Engine. He also states that "Most of the weapons and creatures are done. Most of the levels exist, and there's a ton of gameplay." PC Gamer referred to their 20 minute demo of DNF as "the Duke we all came to know and love in 1996," which bodes well for the interactivity and attitude of the game. Whilst offically the release date of the game is still "When It's Done", PCG speculates that a release date in early 2006 is likely - just in time for the 10th anniversary of Duke 3D.

Whilst there are no screenshots or exclusive information contained within the blurb, I have no doubt that the majority of Duke fans will be relieved that somebody outside of 3DR can confirm the existence of the game. If you're interested in reading the whole article, or indeed the fantastic Prey preview, get your hands on a copy of June's PC Gamer (US) when it hits the streets.

DNF mentioned in PC Gamer magazine

4/20/05 11:57 PST | Duke Nukem Forever News | Eclipse

A number of sources are reporting that as well as featuring the exclusive Prey preview as expected, the June issue of PC Gamer also has a small article on DNF. Here's everything that's been posted about it so far!

"I just got PC Gamer's June issue and apparently after previewing Prey, 3D Realms showed them a demo of Duke Nukem Forever showing "that DNF is up and running and in very fine form indeed." According to Broussard, "Most of the weapons and creatures are done. Most of the levels exist, and there's a ton of gameplay. We're in the process of pulling it all together, and very much look forward to showing it off. It won't be vaporware much longer." The article talks about demos of interactions with the environments, saying they're in the spirit of those in Duke Nukem 3D. They also report that DNF won't be shown at E3 this year, and until there is a "delux unveiling," nobody will get any more of a look at it."

"In the article Broussard mentions that after switching to the Unreal engine working with their own rendering modifications in 2002, they 'have been moving forward and are making progress.'"

"There was a large preview of Prey with some detail and on the last page of the preview, on the right-side of the page was a small article saying that they were in Texas and treated to demo of Duke Nukem Forever. They said it was rough, but had all the elements that make a great Duke Game, and they believe from what they saw that it would be a probable 2006 release"

"On the cover is a star medallion that says "Duke Nukem Forever - We've seen it!" The cover is art from Prey and and World-Exclusive Announcement - Prey [...] The 2006 projection is the PC Gamer author's opinion based on what he saw from the demo"

Although George Broussard posted this cautionary note:

"You guys should not get too excited. The game is still when it's done. We don't have any control over what people write, after looking at it. I really did not tell PCG anything more than I've told you here.

So please control expectations :)

The point of the article is Prey."
