Platinum 5.1, Generic 15' Display supporting 1024x768 max res... Well, in the beginning, I got that damn freeze-after-5-seconds BUG, then I changed the default view to "Bird's Point of View", and worked for some time, crashes were still happening, and I was going NUTS. So I looked at some articles, done some things, and actually improved my game play, could play at least 15-30 minutes withought **** crashes. But anyway, in the end, it crashed. God-damn. Things I've done follows: 1. Update game to 1.1 (http://www.rockstar.com) 2. Used Pa3PyX's Drivers for Win9X (downt know if they're vaporware, just know they're damn fast and crashes GTA3 less than any other driver I've ever used. Remember to enter Safe Mode, deleting any files starting with 3dfx, but DO NOT remove 3dfxcmn.dll if it exists. Get Pa3PyX's Drivers at http://members.fortunecity.com/pa3pyx/ , and install'em in Safe mode, just after deleting the 3dfx* files. Again, I DON'T KNOW the nature of this driver, if it's vaporware, if it'll damage your PC, so DONT BLAME ME IF IT DOESNT WORK. Ok? Oh, and download the latest VIA 4-in-1 at www.viahardware.com if you own a VIA chipset. 3. Delete the txd.img file inside GTA3\models . This is the file with the optimized textures. 4. Disable geometry assist, disable EVERYTHING, use "MipMap LOD Bias" value +8 (You can do this in 3dfx Underground Tools or 3dfx tools, I use both). 5. Visit www.sheepyuk.com and get the HightFPS mod. Personally, I use 16Color textures, I disable papers and leave the pedrestians setting alone... 6. Start GTA3, set display settings to 640x480 resolution, view distance to minimum, this doesnt change anything anyway... 7. Start a game, skip ALL cutscenes, they're great, but hell, they lock the pc 80% of the times i've tried!! 8. Have fun! You'll notice you cant get past that damn "Cutting the Grass" mission and the one wich follows, but i've played the game in my friend's pc with a GeForce2 and got the savegames..., I dont know how to make them avaiable for download, so if there's anyone interested I may e-mail these 2 files (the After-Cutting the Grass Mission and after- Post "Cutting the Grass")... OK? Ok, i've done all this, it really improved my GTA3 gameplay... I noticed that then the game hangs, the next time I went out in the crazy Liberty City world, there would be more chances for the game to hang again, if I havent deleted the txd.img file before starting playing. So, i created a theory... If there's some corrupted textures in the txd.img file (that is the optimized texture files for the voodoo3) the card wouldnt understand these textures and would hang your PC. And, then you restart, as the txd.img file is always being used, more textures would become corrupted, and so the more you play, the more the game crashes. Ok, so I copied the txd.img from my geforce2 friend, and guess what? GTA3 realised someway i've changed the txd.img file and my pc freezed before loading... So, there's some kind of built-in protection inside GTA3, to keep us from playing, because, if my theory is correct, and if there's a way to remove this protection, we could play, because: 1. At the time of the while-loading GTA3 crash, there were no image beside that ugly bitmap, so it couldn't have been a voodoo3 problem 2. The voodoo3 automatically converts textures it cant use, via hardware, as far as I know. Right Click on an empty area of the desktop Left Click on Properties Click on the Settings Tab Click on Advanced Properties Click on the GeForce Tab (it will have the same name as you video card) Click on the Additional Properties Click on the Direct3D Setting Tab Place a Check Mark next to Enable For Table Emulation Click Apply Click OK and keep clicking OK until all those windows are closed. Then try the game again. Also with Nvidia cards, Anti aliasing settings Right Click on an empty area of the desktop Left Click on Properties Click on the Settings Tab Click on Advanced Properties Click on the GeForce Tab (it will have the same name as you video card) Click on the Additional Properties Click on 3d Anti aliasing Change setting (anything but off made my G3Ti200 choppy) Click Apply TEST Το patch για τα WinXP.
